BUCKLE Filed March 20, 1934 c717? .Bfyanf gmm 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Patented May 28, 1935 UNITED STATES BUCKLE John R. Bryant, Springfield, Tenn, assignor of one-half to Hatton N. Batson,
Application March 20,
2 Claims.
This invention relates to a buckle, the general object of the invention being to provide a simple form of buckle for adjusting the straps of overalls or the like.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:-
Figure l is a fragmentary overalls, showing the invention in use.
Figure 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a view of the buckle.
Figure 4 is an edge view of the buckle.
Figure 5 is a section on line 5-5 of Figure l, with the strap omitted.
Figure 6 is a view of Figure 7 is a view of the sliding member thereof.
Figure 8 is a view of the hook or clip, with a part of the button in section.
Figure 9 is an edge view of the hook or clip, showing the same connected with the button and also showing a part of the overalls.
In these drawings, the letter A indicates a part of the overalls and the letter B the straps thereof. A hook or clip I connects each strap to a button a of the overalls, each hook or clip having a substantially rectangular upper part 2 through which a part of the strap passes, with the limbs 3 and 4 depending from this part 2, withthe limb 3 of greater length than the limb 4 and the lower end of this limb 3 is bent upwardly to provide a U- shaped part 5 for fitting around the shank of the button a and the extremity of the U-shaped part is bent to form an eye 6, as shown more particularly in Figure 9. The lower end of the limb 4 is bent inwardly at right angles and this part is bent into U-shape, as shown at I, with its lower limb or the limb which is connected with the part 4 passing through the eye 6 and this U-shaped part I extends across the lower-part of the space formed by the so as to hold the shank of the button in the U- shaped part 5 of the limb 3. Each of the limbs 3 and 4 is slightly bent Figure 8.
Thus it will be seen that by pushing the limb 4 outwardly, the U-shaped part 'I is moved to one side so that the shank of the button can be view of a portion of the frame of the buckle.
limbs 3 and 4, as shown in Figure 8,
outwardly, as shown in Bowling Green,
1934, Serial No. 716,518
passed into the U-shaped part 5 of the limb 3 and then by releasing the limb 4, the parts will return to the position shown in Figure 3 and thus the U-shaped part I will prevent the shank of the button from moving upwardly and thus eliminate danger of the hook or clip 3 releasing itself from the button.
Each buckle C for adjusting the length of each strap B is composed of a rectangular shaped frame 8 having its ends bent inwardly at their centers to form the U-shaped parts 9 and a wire is bent into an elongated loop It! which is closed, as shown more particularly in Figure '7, with one end of the wire bent beyond the looped part to form the hook l I. The loop ID fits over the bight of one of the U-shaped parts 9 and is slidably arranged thereon and the hook I I is adapted to engage the bight of the other U-shaped part 9, as shown in Figures 4 and 5. By pressing upon the loop III, the hook I I can be forced out of engagement with the bight of the loop with which it engages and then the member II] can be moved outwardly'so as to facilitate the passage of the straps B through the frame, as shown in Figure 2. As will be seen from this figure, a partof the strap is passed through the frame and over the member ID and then the strap is brought back and'one end is passed into a part of the frame and over the member ID, with the extremity of this end located between the two parts of the strap, as shown at I2 in Figure 2. It will, of course, be understood that the buckle can be slid on the strap to adjust the length of the same,
but when the buckle is strap, it is simply necessary member In to free the hook with which it engages and then by sliding the member It on the other part 9, the buckle can be easily removed from the strap.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantagesand novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:-
l. A buckle of theclass described comprising a substantially rectangular shaped frame formed of an endless piece of material and having the central portion of each end piece bent inwardly into U shape, a therein through which passes the bight of one U-shaped part of the frame for pivotally and to press upon the II from the part 9 to be removed from the tongue having an elongated slot 7 slidably connecting the tongue with said U- relation to another portion to provide an elonshaped part, said slot extending to a point adgated loop through which passes the bight of one r c nt on nd f th ton ue t other nd f of the U-shaped parts, the extremity of said bent the tongue having a hook for engaging th bight end portion being bent to contact the other por- 5 of the other U-shaped part.
tion to close the space formed. by the loop and A buckle of the class descnbed compnstng the extremity of said other portion being bent a substantially rectangular shaped frame having into hook shape to engage the bight portion of the central portion of each end piece bent inthe other U shaped part :ardly to provide a U-shaped part, an elongated JOHN R BRYANT 10 member having one end portion bent in parallel
