Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID L. DENSMORE, OF STANTON, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVE MEI \IT IN BOARD RULE AND GAGE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 199,807, dated January 2 9, 1878; application filed I July 7, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID L. DENSMORE, of Stanton, in the county of Montcalm and State of Michigan, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Board Rule and Gage; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
lumber; and it consists in the construction of a combined board rule head and gage, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The annexed drawing, to which reference is made, .fully illustrates my invention.
A represents a head, of suitable dimensions, made of steel or other metal, and perfectly flat upon its upper side. B is the gage, made of brass or other metal, substantially in the form shown, and fastened to the .center of the head A by tenons b b, projecting from its lower end into holes a a made in the head. The gage B is open at the top and one edge, form ing a socket, into which the handle of the rule is to be inserted and fastened by rivets or otherwise.
By this invention the lumber-sealer ascertains the thickness of a board from one inch to two inches or more with ease and rapidity without the use of a separate gage, or handling the board to measure, as now generally done.
In the solid edge of the gage B are made notches d d, intended to measure one, one and one-fourth, one and one-half inch, and two inches to the square shoulder a near the top.
The lower side of the gage is graduated from one-fourth up to two inches or more.
This invention is cheap and durable, and
DAVID L. 'nENsMoRE.
