This invention relates to boxes of that'type formed of .folding box-board.

Y It is the practice to combine with boxes of merchandise inventory control tabs which heretofore have been held to the boxes in different ways more or less complicated and all ofv which have added 4to the cost of producing the container. The present invention has for an object the provision of novel means whereby an inventorsT control tab can be held assembled with a box Without adding to the cost of production or materially changing the box construction.

With theforegoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims, it being understood'that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts Without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed. y

In said drawing Figure l is an end elevation of a box constructed in accordance with the present invention, the holder for the inventory control tab being indicated by broken lines.

Figure 4 is a plan View of the gummed side of the blank from which the tab holder is formed.

Referring to the figures by characters of reference I designates a box formed of box-board material the bottom of which is provided with an upstanding end flap 2 While the sides 3 are provided with laterally extended end flaps 4.

The end of the box is formed of a blank 5 adapted to be folded along a transverse line as indicated at 5 so as to straddle the flaps 2 and 4 and be aflixed thereto. At the center of the fold in this end blank 5 there is formed a slot l extending longitudinally of the fold. That portion 5 of the blank 5 adjacent to the slot is free from adhesive so that a non-adhesive area 8 is thus provided. Obviously, therefore, when blank 5 is folded along the line 6 and its opposed portions pressed toward each other, said portions will 10 adhere not only to the naps 2 and 4 but will also adhere to each other except where the area 8 is located. At this point there will be provided a pocket 9 the opening to Which is formed by the slot l.

By providing a pocket as described an inventory control tab can be readily inserted thereinto, and as the Walls of the pocket are joined by the adhering portions of the blank 5, the inserted tab will always be held in position Where it can be 20 readily reached for removal.

What is claimed i-s:

1. A box including side and bottom portions having end flaps, a folded end blank straddling the flaps, an adhesive for holding the end blank 25 to the flaps and for joining opposed portions of the blank, there being an unjoined area dened by and Within the end blank and an aperture opening into said area.

2. In a box Yan end wall comprising a folded 30 blank, an adhesive on one surface of the blank `for joining opposed portions of the blank when folded, there being an area on theblank free from adhesive thereby to provide a pocket within the folded blank, said Wall having an aperture opening into the pocket.
