The invention relates to improvements in sputum receptacles as described in the present specification and shown in the accompanying drawing that forms a part of the same.

The main object of the invention is to provide a sanitary device of simple construction by means of which a person desiring to expectorate may conveniently do so without embarrassment and without danger of speading germs which might result in the communication of disease to others.

A further object is the inclusion with the receptacle of means adapted to be used to wipe the lips of the user after liquid has been emitted from the mouth.

A still further object is to provide a sanitary receptacle constructed from such materials and of such shape and dimensions as will permit of a considerable number being conveniently carried on the person.

The invention consists in the novel features of construction, arrangements and combinations described in the present specification and more particularly pointed out in the claim for novelty following.

Referring to the drawing l is the receptacle which may be manufactured from any suitable material, rendered impervious to liquid, and preferably of a flexible nature to permit of its being conveniently folded so that a number of the devices may be carried in the pocket, or otherwise stored within a small space.

The body of the receptacle may be of any desired shape which will permit of a small quantity of liquid being contained therein and one portion of the wall has an extension, or flap, 2 constituting a napkin for use in wiping the lips of the user after the expulsion of liquid from the mouth. This extension, or napkin, may be of any desired shape or size but in practice it has been found that a substantially fan shaped ,device of considerably 5 greater dimensions than the body of the device is preferable in that it provides a wrapper which may be placed around the receptacle in the folded condition of the latter to prevent the escape of liquid.

In Figure 2 a modified construction is shown in which an insert 3, substantially similar in shape to the flap, or napkin 2 but of a relatively softer material, is secured within the cup and extends upwardly in front of said flap and is used in place thereof for wiping the lips;

Figure 3 shows another modification in which extensions 4 constituting napkins are provided on opposite sides of the body of the receptacle, or cup.

In practice the user simply expectorates in the cup and wipes his, or her, lips on the napkin 2, or the insert 3, according to the type of device being used, and then folds up the device and, where conditions-permit, throws it away immev diately, or if circumstances do not permit of immediate disposal it may be temporarily placed with safety in the pocket, or other container, and disposed of at another time.

It will thus be apparent that by the present invention a simple and inexpensive sanitary de vice is provided which can be conveniently carried on the person for use in street cars, stores, theatres, and other places where promiscuous expectoration is not only harmful to others but is most annoying.

What I claim is:

A sputum receptacle comprising a flexible container constructed of liquid proof material, said container having an extension constituting a napkin, and an insert of a material of relatively softer texture than that of which said receptacle is made, said insert extending upwardly above the body of said receptacle parallel withsaid exten- SlOIl.
