Description

March 26, 1935. A C SARGENT 1,995,822
SCREEN SECTION OR APRON FOR CONVEYERS Filed Oct. 14, 1953 /7. 35a ryeni v g r M Patented Mar. 26, 1935 UNITED STATES SCREEN SECTION R APRON FOR CONVEYERS Allan G. Sargent, Graniteville, Mass., assignor to C. G. Sargents Sons Corporation, Graniteville, Mass, a corporation of Massachusetts Application October 14, 1933, Serial No. 693,663
2 Claims.
This invention relates to a screen section or apron for conveyers, and it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this kind provided at one end with a series of hook members and at the opposite end with eye members to be engaged by the hook members of another section.
Furthermore, it is an object of the invention to provide a screen section or apron constructed in a manner whereby in the production of the same two of such sections or aprons may be produced at substantially the same time.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved screen section or apron for conveyers whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein 2- Figure 1 is a view in plan of a blank from which duplicate screen sections or aprons are to be produced;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken through screen sections or aprons produced from the blank as illustrated in Figure 1, said sections being in separated relation.
As illustrated in Figure 1 a blank is produced of interwoven longitudinal or weft wires 1 and transverse or warp wires 2 spaced apart to provide rectangular openings of desired dimensions. The blank may be of any width desired and it is preferred that the weft wires be comprised in a continuous strand of material as illustrated in Figure 1.
In the production of the blank a certain number of the Warp or transverse wires are omitted at the central portion of the blank resulting in the weft or longitudinal wires at their mid sections being free and unobstructed for a material distance, as indicated at 3. The portions 3 at substantially their centers are severed as indicated by the broken line 4 resulting in the production of two sections having at one end extended longitudinal or weft wires 1 which are returned as illustrated in Figure 2 to provide inwardly facing hook members 5 positioned to one side of the section or apron proper.
' As illustrated in Figure 2 the opposite end portion of each of the screen sections or aprons is laterally disposed to provide a strengthening member M. The member M is provided by bending the longitudinal or weft wire 1 immediately adjacent to one of the transverse or warp wires 2 at a desired distance inwardly from the end of the section or apron when in blank remote from the hook members 5. The free end portion of the strengthening member M is reinforced by the additional transverse wires 6 interwoven with the longitudinal or Weft wires 1.
Also interwoven with the weft wires 1, preferably immediately adjacent to the opposite sides of the warp wire 2 next to the hook members 5, are the additional reinforcing wires 7.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a screen section or apron for conveyers constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim:- I
1. A blank for forming two screen sections of an endless conveyer, the blank including a single wire bent back and forth to form a series of parallel longitudinal strands with alternate bights at opposite ends of the strands and transverse wires interwoven with the longitudinal strands, the transverse wires being omitted for a predetermined distance at the middle of the blank whereby the longitudinal wires may be severed along a median line to form two screen sections and the longitudinal strands thus formed at the endsof the sections may be bent to form hooks.
2. A blank for forming two screen sections of an endless conveyer, the blank including a single wire bent back and forth toform a series of parallel longitudinal strands with alternate bights at opposite ends of the strands and transverse wires interwoven with the longitudinal strands, the transverse wires being omitted for a predetermined distance at the middle of the blank whereby the longitudinal wires may be severed along a median line to form two screen sections and the longitudinal strands thus formed at the ends of the sections may be bent to form hooks and having extra transverse wires interwoven with the longitudinal wires at each side of said space and extra transverse wires being interwoven with the bight ends of the longitudinal wires.
