UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
SAMUEL WHITNUM, OF GREEN POINT, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMMIODES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 198,865, dated January 1, 1378; application filed f December 6, 1877.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, SAMUEL WHITNUM, of Green Point, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Commodes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and `exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to the usual or ordinary chamber-buckets; and it consists in so constructing the saine that in lcases of necessity at night it can beused as a commode, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which the figure is a central vertical section of my invention.
A represents an ordinary chamber-bucket, provided with the bail B and cover O. The upper edge of the bucket A, as usually constructed, terminates in a wire bound in the metal. I turn the metal outward all around the bucket, and then downward, so as to form a comparatively broad rim, D, convex upon its upper surface. The cover C, to correspond with this alteration in the form of the bucket,
is provided with a flange, E, to lit closelywithin the bucket, and also with a concavoconvex rim, G, to fit over the rim D.
This construction does not materially alter the appearance of the ordinary chamber-buck two witnesses.
