4 Claims.
The invention relates to a basin waste plug and operating mechanism, as described in the present specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing that forms part of the same.
The invention consists essentially in the cooperation of an operating cam with the frame of the waste plug in lifting and lowering movements and the ready releaseof the plug from its operat ing mechanism, as pointed out in the claims for novelty following a description in detail of the preferred form of the invention.
The objects of the invention are to lift the plug clear of any obstructions'by lever actioned stopper operating mechanism, which will insure a rapid and steady flow of the water from the basin during the period of discharge before the closing of the drain passage as well as affording a good closure free of complications and attachments to any mechanism liable to affect the proper control of the opening to the waste pipe, consequently avoiding leaks in basins due to partly open plugs and to accomplish this in a simple gravity operated plug; to maintain economy in regard to production and repairs and in this connection to fa- 25 "'cilitate the removal of the plug and eliminate connecting levers and links which are so expensive in assembling and so liable to get out of order, in fact to minimize the number of parts as well as making those parts of free and open construction, and generally to efficiently close the drain opening and just as efficiently open it for the free passage of the waste water or other liquid and to do this in a reliable and economical manner with due regard to durability and maintenance charges.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a plan view of a basin showing the waste plug or stopper removed.
Figure 2 is a part sectional view from the front .,through to the rear of the basin and showing the plug in place.
Figure 3 is a part sectional view of the basin from one side showing the plug in place.
Figure 4 is an enlarged sectional view of the globe casing forming the head of the drain pipe, and showing the nipple from the basin broken away, on the line 4-4 in Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a vertical sectional view showing the assembled parts and the operating cam and crank 505on the line 55 in Figure 2.
Figure 6 is an enlarged detail of the operating lever and crank mechanism, on the line 6-6 in Figure 2.

Referring to the drawing, the plug or stopper is indicated by the numeral 15 andis formed with an elongated bar tubular flange 16, in the form of a frame or cage having upper openings 17 for the passage of the waste water and a lower i L-shaped opening in right angular section 18 and 19 or as may otherwise be termed a bayonet slot.
The head 20 of the plug projects beyond the flange 16 to form a bevelled valve face 21 engaging the seat 22, which is fixedly secured in the drain opening at the bottom of the basin 23, the tubular extension 24 being externally threaded to form the nipple 25 and slotted intermediately to provide the openings 26 for the overflow from the passage 27 leading from the basin. The globe casing at its upper end is screwed on to the externally threaded nipple 25 and at its lower end to the externally threaded drain pipe 30, and intermediately a gland casing 31 for the gland 32 is formed by a transverse ex- 7 tension, the gland 32 comprising the threaded nut closure 33 screwed into the mouth of the extension against the compressible washer 34 and packing 35.
A crank pin or cam 43 extends from the inner crank 38 into the arcuate section 19 of the bayonet slot in the cage 16 and engages the wall of said frame or cage in raising and lowering the waste plug or stopper.
The reach rod 44 is turned towards the outer crank 37 at the lower end and screwed thereinto and at the upper end joins the link 45 from the eccentric or crank 46 which is operated by the handle 47, this handle in the form of a yoke embracing the case 48 and forming the means of operating the crank shaft and plug.
In the operation of this invention, one of the outstanding features is the free passage of water due to the absence of connecting rods and links, as the waste plug simply stands in its open position on the crank pin or cam and cannot get away from it, yet stands on that crank pin or cam without fastening while in its open position leaving the passage to the drain pipe through the opening 17 free and unobstructed.
The gland 32 encircles and packs the crank shaft 36 which is formed at its outer end beyond the gland casing 31 with the crank 37 and at its inner end beyond the gland casing and within the globe casing with the crank 38 and intermediately with the stop 39 and centering disk 40.
The stop 39 abuts the annular shoulder 41 formed by a flange surrounding the entrance 42 to the globe casing proper and the centering disk 40 is journalled within said shoulder. .119
There is great simplicity in the operation in both opening and closing movements and actually no chance of the parts getting out of order. If by any reason, the stopper should become clogged up ,in regard to openings, through throw ing refuse in the basin, then it can be simply turned so that the crank pin registers with the vertical opening 18, and in this position the plug or stopper is pulled out, cleaned and replaced:

1. In a basin waste plug and operating mechanism' comprising, an operating rod, a double crank lever operatively connected to said rod and having a; pin'from one crank extended inwardly,
a plug having a cylindrical barrel extension slotted for waste outlets and circumferentially slotted forming an elongated horizontal upper surface for said pin and frictionally engaged thereby on the riding upper surface and a bearing for said crank lever including a packing gland projecting from the waste pipe.

In a basin waste plug and operating mecha- I nism comprising, an operating rod, a double crank lever operatively connected to said rod ..;and having a pin from one crank extended inwardly, a plug having a cylindrical barrel extension slotted for waste outlets and circumferentially slotted forming an elongated horizontal upper surface for said pin and frictionally engaged thereby on a riding surface, a globular crank casing introduced in a waste pipe and hava shaft opening thereinto' for'the shaft of said double crank lever and an adjustable gland encircling. said shaft in said opening.

In a basin waste plug and operating mechanism, comprising an operating rod, a double crank lever havingparallel upwardly projecting cranks o'perati'vly connected to said rod and having a. pin from one of said cranks extended inwardly, a plug having a cylindrical barrel extension slotted for waste outlets and circumferentially slotted forming an elongated horizontal upper surface for said pinand frictionally engaged thereby on a riding surface, and a bearing for the-shaft of said crank levers formed of a nut closing ona compressible packing introducedin a nipple of a casing containing one of said cranks and the s'aidbarrel.
