Description

I. S. HQLLOWAY FLUID FUEL BURNER Filed Jan. 19, v193].
Sept. 25, 1934.
1! rl:\' EEEEEEEEMSLEE N CECECEE-LEC-LEC-LECEEEEEEE EEE Patented Sept. 25, 1934 UNITED STATES FLUID FUEL BURNER Isaiah S. Holloway, Jolict, 111., assignor to Moore Brothers Company, Joliet, 111., a corporation of Illinois Application January 19, 1931, Serial No. 509,557
Claims. (01. 158114) This invention relates in general to fluid fuel burners and has more particular reference to fluid fuel burners provided with internal baflling means to direct the fuel throughout the burner 5 for equal or substantially equal delivery to the jet orifices.
A principal object of the present invention is the provision of an internally baflied fluid fuel burner which may be constructed without emlii ployment of complicated internal coring to provide the baifie construction.
The present invention contemplates the construction of a burner of two parts, one of which is the burner part, and the other of which isan arm connecting the mixing chamber with the burner and which, in accordance with the present invention, is provided with the baflle which in the assembly is arranged within the burning member in desired position.
Numerous other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent as it is better understood from the following description, which, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, discloses a preferred embodiment thereof.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a fluid fuel burner embodying my present invention, parts being broken away and shown in section;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged bottom plan view of the burner member; and
Fig. 3 is an enlarged perspective of the end of the mixing chamber arm which engages within the burner member itself.
For the purpose of ilustrating the present invention, there is shown on the drawing a fluid fuel burner which consists of a burner member 11 and a mixing chamber arm 12 adapted to support the burner member and to conduct the mixture of gas and air from its mixing chamber end 13 to the interior of the burner at 14.
The burner member 11 is generally of H form, one side 15 of the H being provided with a single set or row of jet orifices 16 and the other side 1'1 of the H being provided with two rows 18 of jet orifices. It will, of course, be understood that this arrangement of jet orifices is arbitrary and merely selected for the purposes of illustration.
A cross member or bridge 19 of the H is de- 1 its end at 23 adjacent the burner member and is provided with an outlet opening 24 of the shape and size of the opening 21 in the bottom of the burner member. The opening 24 is surrounded by an upstanding flange 25 adapted to fit tightly within the flange 22 above the opening 21.
A baflie plate 28 is formed integral with the arm 12 and, in the present instance, is arranged above the opening 24 and supported in position by integral legs 27 extending up from the flange 25 at each side. The baflle 26, in the instant embodiment, is substantially flat throughout its major portion and is provided with downwardly extending inclined corners 28 adapted for arrangement at the rear of the opening 21 and opposite the rearwardly extending portions of the sides 15 and 1'7. The down turned corners 28 serve to maintain free forward movement of the mixture and aid in insuring substantially equal delivery at all of the general openings.
The burner is assembled by merely inserting the baflie 26 through the opening 21 and interengaging and fitting the flange 22 about the flange 25. Thus arranged the parts may, if desired, be 0 permanently secured in position as by welding or through the employment of other suitable expedient.
It is thought that the invention and many of its attendant advantages will be understood from 35 the foregoing description, and it will be apparent that various changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit and. scope of the invention or sacrificing all of its material advantages, the form hereinbefore described being merely a preferred embodiment thereof.
I claim:
1. A burner for a fluid fuel burning stove, comprising in combination a burner member provided with jet outlet orifices and having an opening in its bottom, and a supporting and fuel conducting arm connected into said opening and provided with a baflle member arranged within said burner member and immediately beneath certain 190 of said jet outlet orifices.
2. A burner for fluid fuel burning stoves, comprising a burner member generally of H form and having an opening beneath its cross connection, and a supporting and fuel supplying arm fitting within said burner and having an upwardly extending bridge part for directing delivered fuel in said burner member. v v
3. A burner for fluid fuel burning stoves, comprising a burner member generally of H form bames being deflected downwardly to disperse the fuel mixture.
5. A burner for fluid fuel burning stoves, comprising in combination an elongated burner member provided with jet outlet orifices and having an opening in its bottom, a supporting and fuel supplying arm adapted to enter into and seal said opening, and having a baflie member arranged above said opening and immediately beneath certain of said jet outlet orifices.
