Iviy invention relates to the combination of a clock and door, and more particularly to the combination of a clock with a wall cabinet. I realize that clcc have previously been used with mirrored su aces. However, in such cases, the mirror has been a stationary structure and the clock was either inserted in a hole cut in the mirror, or elsc nxed against the back of the mirror, the mirrored surface over the face of the clock having been removed.
My invention consists in obtaining the effect of a clock erinanently fixed in a surface, which surhowever, is hingedly connected and which is adapted to swing away from the clock. For the purposes 0.? beauty, I have shown the mirrored door of such a size that when closed it completely covers the cabinet opening and gives the impression of a wall mirror. The cabinet is preferably 45 set in a wall recess, the wall being indicated by reference character 13. It is possible, of course, to use invention in connection with a door not necessarily attached to a recessed cabinet.
The door is fitted with a frame 14. A backing .vhich may be of fibre board is used to give added support to the mirrored surface 10. I have also shown a metal backing 16 to give a finished appearance to the door when open. The door has in it an opening 1'7 of substantially the 55 same size as the face of the clock 11. The clock cuiarly to the drawing inhas a face 18 projecting into the plane of the door when it is closed. The clock is enclosed and supported within the cabinet by means of the metal box 19. This clock box 19 I shown as supported within the cabinet by means of the on upper inturned flanges 20 which operate in the slots 21 attached to the cabinet. The box 19 does not have a back where it bears against the back of the cabinet 12 and can be pulled out from the cabinet, the flanges 20 sliding in the slots 21.
In the modification illustrated, I have shown an electric clock which has several advantages from the standpoint of convenience although it is not necessary to use such as type, of clock in carrying out my invention. I have shown an electric connection 22 extending from the clock mechanism housing 19 to an electrical plug and slot connection 23. This plug is connected to a second plug and slot connection 24 from which an electrical conduit 25 extends through a hole in the upper part of the cabinet 26 to any convenient source or" electrical supply. he electrical plugs and connections 23 and 2% preferably rest on an insulation plate 27 and are enclosed in a metal box 28 which may be. screwed to the back of the cabinet by the screws 28'. The clock housing 19' at its extending surface has a glass face 29 which is held in position against the inturned edge of the projecting rim 18 by means of an internal rim 30. The hands 31 of the clock move within the space thus formed. v
It is clearly seen from Figure 2 that when the door is closed, the face of the clock 19' projects into and. fits snugly within an open portion of the doorenclosed by the rim 1?. If a mirrored surface for the door is used, the mirrored portion is removed over the face of the clock so that when the door is closed, the clock is seen through the door as shown in Figure 1. The turned-in edge 17 of the flanged rib 1? lies against the back of the mirror and forms a frame for the clock. The mirror may be grooved slightly on its inner side where the edge 1'7 bears against it in order that a finished appearance may be given to this framing eifect. The projecting face of the clock is adapted to fit as snugly as pomible within the rim 1'? and yet still permit the swinging of the door against and away from the clock and cabinet. The are of 105 the swing of the door will be so small that a very snug fit can be obtained which gives the appearance that the clock is actually set in the glass mirror.
The clock is completely enclosed and protected by the box 19 as it always remains in position within the cabinet. The clock, however, may be easily removed for inspection, setting, or repair, by merely pulling outwardly the box 19 which slides through the grooves 21 and, if electrically operated, disconnecting the plug connection 23.
The cabinet may be inserted in a wall recess and an electrical connection inserted through hole 26 and plugged into the connection 24 for operating the clock. The cabinet may, of course, be fitted with shelves, lights or other equipment not shown.
While I have shown a particularly convenient and useful method for combining a clock with a swinging or movable surface, I do not wishto be limited to the specific structure which I have shown as it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that there are other modifications which will be within the purview of my invention.
What I claim is:
1. The combination comprising a cabinet, a door for said cabinet, said door having a mirror face and a backing, a clock within said cabinet and attached thereto, the backing of said door having a recessed portion adapted to enclose the face of said clock when said door is in closed position, said mirror face having no mirrored surface over the face of said clock.
2. The combination comprising a cabinet, a mirrored door for said cabinet, said mirrored door having a mirror-supporting back, a clock at tached to said cabinet having a face projecting beyond the plane of the cabinet opening, said mirror-supporting back having a recessed p rtion adapted to enclose the face of said clock when said door is in closed position, a flanged rim defining said recessed portion in said door and lying against the back of said mirrored surface, said mirror being free from said mirrored surface at the portion thereof lying over the face of said clock.
3. The combination comprising a cabinet, a mirror door for said cabinet, a supporting back for said mirror door, a clock within said cabinet having a face projecting beyond the'plane of the opening of said cabinet, a box within said cabinet supporting and enclosing said clock, said door having a recessed portion adapted to enclose the projecting face of said clock whenthe door is in closed position, the face of said clock being adapted to lie in close relationship with said mirror, the mirrored surface being removed from that portion of the mirror lying over the face of the clock.

The combination comprising a cabinet adapted to be recessed in a wall,a mirrored door ing face of said clock, a rim defining said recess in said door backing and adapted to snugly enclose said projecting clock face, said mirror being left clear and transparent at the portion thereof covering the face of the clock.
5. The combination comprising a cabinet, a mirrored door for said cabinet, a supporting back for said mirrored door, an electric clock within said cabinet having a face projecting beyond the plane of the cabinet opening, electrical connections attached to said cabinet, conduits connecting said clock and connections and said connections with a source of electrical supply, a box within said cabinet supporting and enclosing said clock and also enclosing said electrical connections, said door having a recessed portion adapted to enclose the projecting face of said clock when the door is in closed position, the face of said clock being adapted to lie in close relationship with said mirror, the mirrored surface being removed from that portion of the mirror lying over the face of the clock.
6. The combination comprising a swinging door attached to a supporting means, a mirror for said door, a clock attached to said supporting means and positioned behind said door when in closed position, said clock having a face projecting into the back of said door and adapted to lie in close relationship with said mirror when said door is in closed position, said door having 7 a recess adapted to receive said clock face, the
mirrored surface being removed from said mirror at that portion covering the clock face.
7. The combination comprising a supporting means, a door hingedly attached to. said means, a clock attached to said means and lying behind said door when in closed position, said door comprising a mirror, said clock being positioned to lie in close relationship with said mirror when in closed position, the mirrored surface on said mirror being removed over the face of said clock, a backing for said mirror having a recess adapted to receive the clock face, said clock having a face projecting beyond the plane of the rear surface of the door when in closed position.
