In Germany June 18, 1931 Claims. (01. 24106) This invention relates to separable collar but tons of the type consisting of a tubular socket and a stud each being fixed on a small plate said "tubular socket being made of resilient material I and provided with a longitudinal slit.

This invention consists in the novel construction in whicha wall of said slit has acavity opening in the slit, a stud having a lug on its side larger than the normal width of the slit, the material of the tubular socket member being sufiiciently resilient for the lug to be pushed longitudinally into the slit until it reaches the cavity therein and 'for the slit to be contracted, allowing the lug to lie in the cavity and oppose separation of the tubular member and stud.

According to the invention, it is also possible to use two slits.

The object of this invention is to spare the resiliency of the tubular socket and to obtain a button the stud of which can be easily inserted into and removed from the tubular socket.

Preferably the widened parts of the longitudinal slits in the tubular socket and the lugs of the stud which fit in them are provided in or near the middle of the said parts.

In this constructional form the thin part of the stud is first inserted into the hole in the tubular socket provided for this purpose. This provides for the stud a certain guide for the lugs into the longitudinal slits, so that the two parts can be inserted conveniently one into the other.

It is also possible to provide the upper edge of the tubular socket with a recess, so that when the parts are placed together the lugs are automatically guided into the longitudinal slits.

The diameter of the lugs is greater than the width of the slits but is equal to or smaller than the diameter of the widened part at the end of the slits. When in use the lugs are thus held in the widened places and the two parts can only be separated by exerting a considerable pull.

In the accompanying drawing several constructional examples of the collar-button according to the invention are shown.

Fig. 1 shows in elevation to a slightly enlarged scale a collar button in which the two parts are inserted one in the other.

Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the stud shown in Fig. 1 which is provided with lugs.

Fig. 3 shows the stud according to Fig. 2 turned through 90 and Fig. 4 shows in elevation a constructional form with a fiat socket also on an enlarged scale.

In the various figures of the drawing, 1 is the tubular socket member provided with longitudinal slits 2, which is fixed with one end in a small plate 3, and 4 is the stud provided with laterally extending lugs 5 and a small plate 6, which is received by the socket member 1. The socket member has the end lying remote from the plate 3 provided with a recess 7 for enabling the stud 4 to be guided when being inserted into the socket member. Furthermore the end 8 of the stud 4 is made in the form of a truncated pyramid and the lugs 5 in the example shown are provided in the middle of this pin.

The lugs 5, the object of which is to prevent the two parts separating while in use, may for this purpose snap into diagrammatically opposed seats 9 provided in the opposed walls of the longitudinal slit of the preferably resilient tubular socket 1, in which they are firmly held. In order that the plate 6 shall not bear directly against the end of the socket 1, which might cause the front flap of the collar to be caught between the two parts of the collar-button, the thickening 10 is provided.

In the constructional form shown in Fig. 4 the longitudinal slits 2 and the seats 9 are provided in the broad sides of the tubular socket member 1, so that the lugs 5 of the stud must be on the broad sides of the same.

I claim:

1. A separable collar button comprising a stud and tubular member, said member being formed from resilient material and having longitudinal slits formed therein, and the walls of the slits having seats formed therein, lugs carried by the stud and engageable in the seats, said member having recesses in its outer end for guiding the stud thereinto.

2. A separable collar button comprising a stud, and a tubular member, said member being formed from resilient material and being oval shaped, the opposite sides having longitudinal slits therein, the walls of which are provided with opposed seats, lugs carried by the stud and engageable in the seats, the outer end of the sides having recesses therein for guiding the studs into the tubular member.

3. A separable collar button including a tubular stem having a longitudinal slit therein, a wall of said slit having a cavity opening into the slit, a stud having a lug on its side larger than the normal width of the slit, the material of the tubu- 105 lar member being sufficiently resilient for the lug to be pushed longitudinally in the slit until it reaches the cavity therein and the slit contracted, allowing the lug to lie in the cavity and oppose separation of the tubular member and stud.
