Description

.iii
Patented July 3, 1934 UNVE- res ATENT orgies 8 Claims.
My invention relates toV improvements in receptacles, and it consists in the combinations, constructions and arrangements herein described and claimed.
An object of my invention is to provide a receptacle including an interior container, and having a removable decorative covering, and also .being provided with a protective casing for the container held rigidly in position.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the type described in which means is provided for simultaneously holding the decorative covering, the protective casing and the container rigidly in assembled position.
A further object of the invention is to provide a receptacle having ,a container and a'protective casing spaced therefrom whereby any liquids spilled from the container will be caught by the protective casing..
A further object of the invention is to provide a device having an interior container and a protective casing, and in which a decorative covering made up in sections is provided, the latter being spaced apart from the protective casing, but being held together by means which also engages the protective casing and the inner container for retaining the assembly in position.
Other objects and advantages will appear in the following specification and the novel features of the invention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming part of this application, in which:
Figure 1 is a central vertical section through one form of the invention,
Figure 2 is a horizontal section on the line 2 2 of Fig. l,
Figure 3 is a vertical section through a modified form of the device,
Figure 4 is a vertical section through another modied form, and,
Figure 5 is a vertical section through a further modified form.
Referring now to Figures l and 2 I have shown therein an inner container 6, which in this instance, is in the form of a glass jar closed at its bottom and provided at its upper edge with eX- terior threads 7. These threads are so formed as to leave a shoulder 8. Surrounding the inner receptacle is a protective casing having a body portion 9, an outwardly extending flange 10 at the bottom, and an inwardly extending ange 11 arranged to bear on the shoulder 8. In this instance the decorative covering has a lower section i2 having a groove 13, arranged to receive the flange 10. rhe section 14 immediately above the section 12 has a lapped joint 15, and this section terminates above the iiange 11 of the casing 9.
A ring-like member 16 is provided with threads 16a to engage the threaded portion 7 of the inner container, and it has a flange 1Gb arranged to overlie the upper edge of the section 14. This section V16 is tapered as shown, to receive a cover `17 N which in the present instance is held frictionalci; 1y in position.
In assembling the device the protective casing, which may be a metal canister open at top and at bottom, is placed over the inner container 6. The sections 1g2 and 14 are placed in position, the 'Y former resting on the flange 12, and the ring-like section 16 is screwed down until the ange 16h engages the upper rim of the section 14, thus holding the decorative covering between the ring and the Vflange 10 and at the same time drawing the 5. shoulder 8 upwardly under the flange 11 so as to hold both the container 8 and the protective casing 9 rigidly in position. By removing the member 16, the entire assembly can be dismembered.
In Fig. 3 there is an inner container 18 having a closed bottom .and an open top. The protective casing in this instance is in the form of a cane ister 19, having a closed bottom and being provided with a flange 20. The section 21 of the decorative covering corresponds to the section 12 in 85 Fig. 1. In this instance there is an intermediate section 22, and above this intermediate section is a section 23 of the decorative covering which has a shoulder 23a.
A ring-like member 24 similar to the member 16 in Fig. 1 is threaded to engage the threads 19a of the member 19. It has a lip 24a overhanging the upper edge of the inner container, and it has a shoulder 2417 which engages the shoulder 23a. The inner upper portion of the member 24 is ared to receive a powder puff, and it is provided With a cover 25.
In this form of the device it will be noted that when the member 24 is secured in position, it bears on one side on the upper edge of the container 18 and on the other side on the upper section of the decorative covering. In order to provide for any inequality in height, a resilient cushion 26 is disposed between the bottom oi the protective casing, and the inner container, so that the member 24 may be screwed down tight to hold the parts in rigid assembly.
In Figure 4 I have shown a modified form in which an ordinary ink bottle 27 forms the inner container. This rests on a cushion 28 in a canister 19, which is threaded, and- Which is engaged by a threaded section 30 of the decorative covering. This threaded section engages the upper edge of the lower section 31 of the decorative covering, the latter bearing on a flange 29a of the protective casing. The upper portion of the member 30 is extended to engage the rounded shoulder of the bottle, as at 27a. A screw cap 32 is provided.
In the use of this form of the device any ink which is spilled over the side of the bottle will be caught by the canister which forms the protective casing, thus preventing the staining of the decorative covering. In Fig. 5 the bottom section 33 of the decorative covering is threaded as shown at 33a, to engage threads on the protective casing 34. The latter has a shoulder 34a which engages the upper edge of the decorative section 35. The protective casing in this instance extends upwardly and inwardly forming in fact a continuation of the section 35, and it engages the rounded shoulder of the bottle 36. The latter rests on a cushion 37 similar to the cushion 26 in Fig. 3, and the bottle is threaded at 36a to receive a threaded cap 38. In this form of the device the upper portion of the protective casing may be turned to clamp the section 35 oi the decorative covering in position, and as stated, it also engages the bottle and holds it rmly on the cushion 37.
In all of the forms shown it will be observed that there is an inner container, a protective casing surrounding it, a decorative covering, and means for holding the parts in rigid assembly, this means being easily removable to permit the dismantling of the device or the replacement of portions of the decorative covering.
rI'he devices set forth above besides having the advantage of a decorative covering and a protective casing which may be quickly assembled, or taken apart, also have the advantage in that parts may be used which eliminate structural exactions. Thus in Fig. l, the protective casing is merely a cylindrical metal member with an inwardly extending ilange at the top and an outwardly extending flange at the bottom. When the device is assembled it does not show.
In Figs. 4 and 5 an ordinary ink bottle is made use of, and this reduces the cost of the article, since these may be bought on the open market. In those instances in which the protective casing or canister is provided with a bottom, the casing usually made of metal is leakproof so that even though the contents of the inner container may overflow it will be caught by the protective casing.
I claim:
l. The combination of an inner container, a protective casing therefor disposed exteriorly of the container, a decorative covering disposed exteriorly of the protective casing, and means for holding said parts in rigid assembly.
2. A receptacle comprising an inner container member, a protective casing member and an outer decorative covering member, one of said members being threaded and another of said members being threaded to engage the threads of said first named threaded member and being movable to a position to hold said members in rigid assembly.
3. A receptacle comprising an inner container member, a protective casing member surrounding said container, a decorative covering member, said decorative covering member being made in sections and coacting means on certain o1 said members for holding all of said members in rigid assembly.
4. A receptacle comprising an inner container, a protective casing for said container, an exterior decorative sectional covering, and means for holding the cover, the casing and the container in rigid assembly.
5. A receptacle comprising an inner threaded container, a casing surrounding said container and having a portion arranged to engage the container, an outer decorative cover having a portion arranged to engage the protective casing, and a ring-like member threaded to engage the inner container and arranged to bear on the cover for holding the cover, the protective casing and the interior container in rigid assembly.
6. A receptacle comprising an inner container, a protective casing surrounding said inner' container and being threaded, an outer cover arranged to bear on a portion of the casing, and a ring-like member in threaded engagement with the casing and having a portion arranged to bear on the inner container, and a portion arranged to bear cn the outer cover whereby the parts are held in rigid assembly.
'.7. A receptacle comprising an inner threaded container, a protective casing surrounding said container and being threaded at its top, an outer cover member having sections, one of said sections bearing on a portion of the protective casing near the bottom thereof and another section being threaded to engage the threads or the protective casing and having a portion arranged to engage a section of the cover and being extended to engage the inner container whereby the parts are held in rigid assembly.
8. A receptacle comprising an inner threaded container, a protective casing surrounding said container, said casing being threaded and being provided with a shoulder, a lower cover section having threads arranged to engage the threads on the casing, a second cover section held between the shoulder of the casing and the rst named cover section, and said casing being extended to engage the inner container for forcing it toward the bottom section whereby the parts are held in rigid assembly.
