Description
June 12, 1934. c. l.. YoUNGsTRoM HYGIENIC TOOTHBRUSH AND POWDER RECEPTACLE Filed Feb. 3, 1935 Patented June l2, 1934 UNITED STATES HYGIENIC TOOTHBRUSH AND POWDER RECEPTACLE Clifford L. Youngstrom, Albert Lea, Minn. Application February 3, 1933, Serial No. 655,036
3 Claims.
My invention relates to receptacles of a type designed for retaining a tooth brush and toothpowder in one device. In a preferred form, as illustrated, it is intended primarily for individual use and embodies new and unique features of construction as hereinafter fully set forth reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which,-
Fig. 1 is a top view of the combination tooth brush and powder receptacle.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of Fig. 1 showing additionally a portion of a tooth brush retained in the receptacle and the handle part of the brush projecting therefrom.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional View on a plane indicated by line 3--3 in Fig. 1 showing the tooth brush retaining part tilted up to make the powder receptacle accessible, and a tooth brush shown in a position partially dipped in the powder.
Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional View as on line 4--4 in Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing by reference numerals, 5 designates a powder receptacle of elongated box-like form, opening upwardly. At one of the short ends of the box, the rear end, is hinged at 6 a lid '7 for the receptacle normally closing the latter as in Figs. 1, 2 and 4, said lid formed with a longitudinal bore 7B opening from the lid at its end opposite the hinged end. In other words the lid is to all intents and purposes mainly of tubular construction above its receptacle closing part and in said tube or bore may be inserted a tooth brush 8 with its bristle end in and retained frictionally within the bore at the inner extremity of the latter and the handle of the brush projecting outwardly, forward from the device (see Fig. 2).
9 are a number of apertures provided in the bottom of the lid and providing vents connecting the interior of the receptacle with bore 7B, and 10 is a vent aperture through the closed rear end of the lid.
The bottom of the receptacle is rounded to the sides and ends, integrally, and the orice adapted to contain a quantity of tooth-powder, designated 11 in Fig. 3, it being preferred to use a certain prophylactic dentifrice which I have compounded and for which a separate application for patent is being made.
In the use of this device it is first loaded with a quantity of tooth powder and then the lid '7 let down to cover the powder receptacle part, at which time the said lid is of course in horizontal position and a tooth brush 8 is inserted in the bore 7B, bristle end foremost, said bore being of such size that the brush is lightly but suiiiciently frictionally retained by frictional contact in the bore with the bristle end close to the closed end of the bore and the handle of the brush simultaneously projecting from the device and readily accessible (see Fig. 2) for removal.
This device is intended for individual use, the material of which it is made is optional, but preferably hard rubber and colored in any suitable color or combination of colors, also to match the color of the tooth brush, all for desirable, pleasing optical effect. Y
The vents 9, 10 provide for outlet of air from the container and which ilters through the bristles of the brush retained in the bore '7B maintaining tlie brush sterile as the powder is of antiseptic nature.
When a person is about to brush his teeth he merely withdraws the brush, raises the lid and dips the bristle end of the brush, either in moistened or dry condition, in the powder, as shown in Fig. 3. The powder adhering to the brush is then applied to the teeth in dry condition.
Because of the rounded lower parts of the orice all of the powder in the container is readily accessible and removable by the brush. Obviously the powder is not and need not be touched or handled by the user. The extreme sanitary or prophylactic conditions and method brought about in the use of my device will be readily understood.
I claim:
1. In combination, a tooth-brush holder and dentifrice receptacle, the latter comprising an upwardly opening elongated receptacle and the former a lid hinged to the receptacle and normally closing it, said lid provided with an elongated pocket open at the end opposite the hinge and adapted to removably receive and retain a tooth-brush.
2. In combination, a tooth-brush and dentifrice receptacle comprising an upwardly opening elongated receptacle for tooth-powder, a hinged lid normally closing said receptacle and said lid provided with an elongated pocket open at the end opposite the hinge and adapted to removably retain a tooth-brush, said lid provided at its closed end and in its bottom with apertures to provide air circulation in the pocket for the purpose set forth.
3. A tooth brush and powder receptacle comprising an elongated upwardly open container for powder, a lid hinged to one end part of said container and adapted to normally close the receptacle and formed as a tube-like member closed at the hinged end part and open at its free end, said lid provided with a number of vent apertures communicating with the interior of the powder container when said lid is closed.
CLIFFORD L. YOUNGSTROM.
