Description
G. FRANKB. Apparatus for Shaping PantaI-oons. No.196,214.
Patented Oct. 16,1877.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GUSTAV FRANKIE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN APPARATUS FOR SHAPING PANTALO ONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 196,214, dated October 16, 1877; application filed September 4, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAV FRANKE, of Chicago, in the county of (look and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Press for Shaping the Legs of Pantaloons, as fully described in the following specification.
The nature of my invention relates to a press for stretching and shaping the lower ends of the legs of pantaloons; and it consists of a plank suitably shaped and longitudinally cut in two sections, and adjustably connected together by ratchet-bars,in such a manner that said press can be expanded at either end independent of the other, and all the adjusting being accomplished from one end.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the press. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal horizontal section through center, and Fig. 3 alongitudinal vertical section of one end of the same.
In the drawings, A and A are the two sections of the body of the press, which are cut of a wooden plank, with its edges shaped in conformity with the pattern of the lower half of a pantaloon-leg. Section A is grooved on its inward edge for admitting bar B, and sec tion A is notched out for receiving and pivot ing therein one end of link I), the opposite end of which is coupled to theeend of the ratchetbar B. The ratchet-bar B is longitudinally slotted to slide upon a pin in body-section A. Its edge is provided with ratchet-teeth to engage with a pawl, O, which is actuated by a leaf-sprnig, c, and itsextreme end is shaped to form a handle.
D is a bar, slotted so that bar B will pass through its middle. This, at (I, is hinged to the end of press-section A, and one side of it is provided with ratchet teeth, which engage with pawl E, actuated by spiral spring 0.
Both these pawls (J and E are pivoted between two metallic plates, F and F, which are secured upon the end of section A, and are rigidly united at their outward ends by cross piece f.
As will be seen, either end of this press can be expanded independently of the other, so that it can be adjusted to suit for any size or fashion of pantaloons.
This press is inserted into the leg of a pair of pantaloons and expanded, thereby stretching the cloth and removing the creases therein, when the tailor will smooth it with the sad iron in the usual manner.
WVhat I claim as my invention is-- 1. A press for shaping the legs of pantaloons constructed in two parts, A A, in combination with mechanism, operated from one end of the said press, for separating the ends of the parts A A independently of each other, substantially as described.
2. The press consisting of sections A and A, and arranged with ratchet-bar B, link I), pawl G, ratchet-barD, and pawl E, as and for the purpose substantially as herein described and shown.
GUSTAV FRANKE. Witnesses:
