In any event the rib bon will be permanently attached to the garment while the fastener will be removably secured to the ribbon so that the same may be removed when the garment is laundered.

In Figure 4 of the drawing a slightly modified form of construction is shown in which the fastener is provided with the body portion 15, hook portion 22' and recesses 16, 17', 20' and 21'. In this form of invention, however, the body portion of the fastener is provided at points opposite the recesses 17' and 20' with the tabs 40 and 41mspectively, these tabs being provided with pointed detents 42 which extend angularly backwardly, as clearly shown in Figure 5 of the drawing.

In use, this fastener may be attached to a ribbon in the same manner as the fastener shown in Figure 2, and the tabs 40 and 41 may then be bent at the lines 43 and 44 respectively, to position the tabs in the manner illustrated in Figure 5 of the drawing, in which position the detents 42 will enease the ribbon to firmly clamp the fastener to the ribbon. Thus, the tabs constitute clamping members for securely anchoring the fasteners to the ribbons, which are in turn sewed to the garment. If desired, however, the ribbons may be eliminated and the fasteners engaged directly with the'free edge portions of the cloth adjacent the shoulder seams of the garment, in the manner clearly illustrated in Figure 5 of the drawing. When thus used, the fasteners will be positioned on one side of the free edge portions of the cloth and the tabs 40 will then be bent backwardly to firmly clamp the fasteners to the free edge portions of the cloth, as will be readily understood. Thus, the fasteners disclosed in Figures 4 and 5 of the drawing may be secured to the garment either directly as by attaching the same to the free edge portions of the cloth adjacent the shoulder seams or indirectly as by fastening the same to ribbons in the manner above described.

In Figure 6 a further modification of the inventive idea is disclosed in which the fastener is shown as comprising a single length of sheet metal designated generally by the reference character 50. This strip of metal is provided with a hook portion 51 adapted to be bent as at 52 to overlie the portion 53 which constitutes the body of the fastener. The portion 53 of this strip is provided with the laterally extending tabs 54 provided with detents 55 adapted to cooperate with suitable detents 56 on the body portion of the fastener whereby the fastener may be firmly clamped to the free edge portions of the cloth adjacent the shoulder seams of the garment.

From the. above it will be apparent that the invention provides fasteners adapted for association with a garment and adapted for engagement with the straps of an article of lingerie to prevent the straps from slipping downwardly oif of the 5110111" ders of the wearer. The fasteners may be either permanently or detachably secured to the garment and will beof simple construction whereby they may be economically manufactured on a commercial scale.

While the invention has been described with considerable detail, it is to be understood that the description is for the purposes of illustration only and that the right is reserved to make such changes in the details of construction and arrangement of parts as will fall within the purview of the attached claims.

What I claim as my invention is:

1. A fastener of the character described comprising a sheet metal stamping bent upon itself to provide a body portion and a hook portion substantially parallel to said body portion, said body portion being provided at each of its opposite ends with a pair of slots opening through the edges thereof, one slot of each pair opening through one edge of said body portion and the other slot of each pair opening through the other edge thereof, said hook portion being provided with a protuberance adapted for engagement with a protuberance formed on said body portion.

2. A fastener comprising a sheet metal stamping bent upon itself to provide a body portion and a hook portion substantially parallel to said body portion, said body portion having a slot opening through one edge thereof to detachably receive a ribbon and said hook portion being provided with a protuberance adapted to abut a protuberance formed on said body portion.

3. A fastener comprising a sheet metal stamping having a body portion and a hook portion substantially parallel to said body portion and extending the length thereof, said body portion being provided with laterally extending clamping portions adapted to be bent upon the body portion to clamp the said body portion in engagement with a garment.

4. A fastener comprising a sheet metal stamping bent upon itself to form a body portion and a hook portion adapted for engagement with a lingerie strap, and fingers projecting laterally from the body portion of said fastener adapted to be bent to a position where they clamp the body portion of the said fastener to the free edge portions of the cloth of a garment beyond a seam thereof.

A fastener of the character described, comprising a sheet metal stamping bent upon itself to provide a body portion and a hook portion substantially parallel to said body portion, said body portion being provided with slots opening through one edge thereof adapted to removably receive a ribbon, said body portion having portions substantially closing said slots to retain the ribbon in the same.

A fastener of the character described, comprising a sheet metal stamping bent upon itself to provide a body portion, and a hook portion substantially parallel to said body portion, said body portion being provided at each of its opposite ends with a pair of slots opening through the edges thereof, one slot of each pair opening through one edge of said body portion and the other slot of each pair opening through the other edge thereof.

7. A fastener having a body portion and a hook portion substantially parallel to said body portion and extending the length thereof, said body portion having a slot opening through one-edge thereof to removably receive a ribbon.

8. As a new article of manufacture, a fastener having a body portion and a hook portion substantially parallel to said body portion, said body portion being provided at each of its opposite ends with a pair of slots opening through the edges thereof, one slot of each pair opening through one edge of said body portion and the other slot of each pair opening through the other edge there,- of, and means for substantially closing certain of said slots.

9. As a new article of manufacture, a fastener having a body portion and a hook portion substantially parallel to said body portion, said body portion being provided with a plurality of pairs My ris oi. slots opening through the edges thereof, one slot of each pair opening through one edge of said body portion and the other slot of each pair opening through the other edge thereof.

10. A fastener of the character described comprising a strip of sheet material bent upon itself to provide a body portion and a hook portion substantially parallel to said body portion, said body portion being provided with a slot opening through one edge thereof and with slots on opposite sides of said first mentioned slot and opening through the opposite edge of said body portion whereby a ribbon may be threaded in said slots FLORENCE M.
