1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in finger rings and other ornaments embellished by precious and other stones, and it is the principal object of my invention to provide a setting for such rings and other ornaments adapted for the combination of two selected birthstones.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a stone setting allowing the ready exchange of the combination of birthstones for another set according to the fancy of the wearer of the ornament or according to a predetermined schedule as for instance the following representing a selected birthstone combination:
December 21st to January th Turquoise and Garnet January 20th to February 19th Garnet and Amethyst February 19th to March 21st AmethystandBloodstone March 21st to April 19th Bloodstone and Diamond April 19th to May 20th Diamond and Emerald May 20 to June 21st Emerald and Agate June 21st to July 22nd Agate and Ruby July 22nd to August 22nd Ruby and Sardonyx August 22nd to September 23rd --Sardonyx and Sapphire September 23rd to October 23rd Sapphire and Opal October 23rd to November 22nd Opal and Topaz November 22nd to December 21st Topaz and Turquoise A further object of my invention is the provision of a stone setting of simple and therefore inexpensive make, yet durable and efficient in operation.
A still further object of my invention is the 4.0 provision of a combination of two birthstones in one setting allowing a ready exchange of the stones.
These and other objects and advantages of my invention will become more fully known as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be specifically defined in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a ring constructed so according to my invention and carrying a combination of two birthstones.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the ring.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary upper end sectional side elevation of the ring illustrating its bezel closed.
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Figure 3 with the bezel open.
Fig. 4 is a cross-section through the ring on line 4 4 of Figure 3.
Fig. 5 is a front elevation of a hanger or pendant constructed according to my invention with a combination of birthstones.
Fig. 6 is a front elevation of 'a stick-pin and its head constructed according to my invention with a combination of birthstones.
As illustrated, a ring composed of the usual finger band 10 carries a bezel 11 hingedly secured at one end, as at 12, to the setting proper 13.
The bezel has a depending lip 14 at its front end togrip over the setting to hold both in engagement over a pair of birthstones 15, 16, selected according to any desired constellation as for instance according to the schedule named in the introduction to this specification.
The stone setting has secured thereto a laterally disposed depending guide loop 17 bent out of the plane of the setting at its mid portion and passing under a lip 18 which is integrally formed on the outer circumference of the band. The under side of the setting 13 is recessed to receive the lip 18.
In Figure 5 I have illustrated the use of two birthstones 19, 20, in the frame 21 of a pendant suspended by a ring 22 from a chain 23.
In Figure 6, I have illustrated how two birthstones 24, 25, may be used in the setting 25 of a stick-pin 26.
The operation of my device will be entirely clear from the above description and it will be clear that the setting can be conveniently used to exchangeably hold two birthstones and can be conveniently attached or detached from a ring so as to please the wish or desire of any customer who may select these stones according to any predetermined constellation as for instance the one named above.
It will be understood that I have described and shown the preferred form of my device only and that I may make such changes therein as come within the scope of the appended claim without departure from my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A zodiac combination birth-stone setting for precious and semi-precious stones for exchangeably holding birth stones, comprising a band, a lip or raised portion on the outer circumference of said band and integral therewith, a setting mounted on said lip and recessed on its under side to receive said lip, a laterally disposed guide loop passing under said lip and attached to the setting for securing said setting to the band and a bezel on said setting hinged thereto at its rear end and having a depending front lip gripping over the setting to hold the stones detachably in place on said setting.
