Description
April 10, 1934. A. B. coLLlTNGBoURNE 1,954,617
PACKAGE OF TAPE AND SEWING THREAD OR THE LIKE Filed May 28, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE PACKAGE OF TAPE AND SEWING THREAD OR THE LIKE Albert B. Collingbourne, Elgin, Ill.
Application May 28, 1932, Serial No. 614,067
This invention relates 3 Claims.
to a package of tape and sewing thread, or the like, and has for its object to produce a package,
containing the articles speciiied, having a substantially rectangular 5 shape, smooth outer surfaces and symmetrical in appearance.
Bias tape is usually wrapped about a rectangularly shaped piece of cardboard, forming an elongated, flat and thin is usually wound upon c One of the objects of package. Sewing thread ylindrical spools.
my invention is to com- 'nine bias tape and sewing thread, matched as to color, in a single, compact package of such orm that the contents may be enclosed in a wrapper of transparent material,
such as cellophane, without danger of the wrapper becoming torn or broken on account or the irregular contour oi the articles composing the package..
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description.
In the drawing: Fig. 1 is a plan view my invention.
of a package embodying Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. l.
Fig. 3 is a transverse the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. In that embodiment o the drawing, a box-lik sectional view taken on f the invention shown in e support consists of a single piece of cardboard folded and assembled to form a top wall 10 pr ovided at one end with a folded in extension 11, a bottom wall 12 provided at one end with an extension 13, and side walls le and 15 each provided at one end with a flap 16 and at the other end with a iiap 17. The iiaps 16 and folded in extension 11 f crm one end wall oi the box-like support, and at the opposite end the iiaps 17 form the end wall. The extension 13 is disposed in alignment with the bottom 12 and terminates in an upturned end 18.
The wall 10 is adapted to support a conventional package of bias tape which consists of a fiat piece oi cardboard 20 is wrapped.
19 about which the tape A label 21 extends around the cardboard 19 and tape 20.
One or more spools of sewing thread 22, having a combined length equal to the width of the support and the tape package thereon, and having a diameter equal to the combined heights of From the foregoing it will be apparent that the package has opposite surfaces which are substantially parallel to each other, the outer surfaces are fiat and smooth, the appearance is neat and attractive and the Wrapper of transparent material is not endangered by any part of the contents of the package protruding beyond the surfaces deining the contour of the package.
Changes may be made in details of construction without departing from the scope of my invention and I do not intend to be limited to the exact form shown and described, except as set forth in the appended claims.
I claimt- 1. A package of tape and sewing thread comprising a box-like support, a ilat package of tape, substantially the same in area as the top wall or" the support, resting on the support, a spool of thread located adjacent one end of the support, and a wrapper enclosing the support, the package or tape and the spool, the diameter of the spool being substantially equal to the combined heights of the support and tape package, and the length ci the spool being equal to the width of the support.
2. A package of tape and sewing thread comprising a box-like support provided with an eX- tension at one end of its bottom wall, a iiat package of tape, substantially the same in area as the top wall of the support, resting on the support, a spool of thread located adjacent one end of the support on said extension, and a wrapper enclosing the support, the package of tape and the spool, the diameter of the spool being substantially equal to the combined heights oi the support and tape package, and the length of the spool being equal to the width of the support.
3. A new article of manufacture comprising a box-like support provided with an extension at one end of its bottom wall, a iiat package of tape, substantially the same in area as the top wail of the support, arranged on the support, a spool of thread located at one end of the support on said extension, and a Wrapper of transparent material enclosing the support, the package of tape and the spool, the diameter of the spool being substantially equal to the combined heights or" the support and tape package, and the length of the spool being equal to the width of the support.
