TOY MOI TEYBOXES.
No. 195,430, Patented Sept.18i877.
N. PETERS. PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER WASHINGTON u C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE ZUGKSOHWERDT, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOV MONEY-BOXES.
Specification forming part cf Letters Patent N0. 195,430, dated September 18, 1877; application filed July 14, 1877.
T0 all whom it may ooncern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE ZUOK- SCHWERDT, of the oity county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Toy Mouey-Boxes, which improvement is fully sei: forth in the following specifioation, reference being had 130 the a0 companying drawing, in whioh- Figure 1 represents a vertical central section of a money-box oontaini ng my improvement. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section thereof.
Similar letters indicate oorrespondin g parts.
My improvement relates to that dass of money-boxes com posed of a sheet-metal body, top, and boutom, which are joined together by a screw-bolt.
It consists in a sheet-metal body having an outwardly-projectingflange o1 bead on its upper and lower edges, for the purpose of strengthening the body and forming a broad snrface at the point of contaot of oho body with the top and bottom, in eombination with a sheet-metal top having a downwardly-projecting flange on its outer edge, fitting over the flange on the upper edge of the body, and with a sheetz-metal bottom having a groove for the reueption ot' the flange on the lower edge of the body, whereby a very close union 0f the parts of my box is produced.
It consists, also, in the combination, with oho sheet-metal body, top, and bottom, and with the sorew-bol of my box, of a tubular standard, whioh surrounds the screw-bolt in the interior 0f the box, and supports the t0p and bottom thereof, so that tal1e top and bot- 'corn are, to a great extent, prevented. from bulging.
In the drawing, the letter A designates the body, B is the top, and 0 is the bottom, of my box, which parts are each made of a single piece of sheet metal, cut out and bent to Ehe proper shape. The body A is provided witah a flange, a o1 b, on its upper and lower edges, which are formed by bending such edges of the body outward and upon itself, as shown in Fig. l.
The t0p B has the usnal slit; c, for the intaroduotion of money, am]. its outer edge is baut downward to form a flange, d, the same being so arranged that it fits over the flange a 011 the upper edge of the body.
The bottom 0 is provided with a groove, e, 110 receive the flange b 0n the lower edge of the body A, said groove being formed by depressing a suitable portion of the bottom, as seen in Fig. 1.
Through the top B and bottom 0 extends a holt, D, which has a headf ab one am], am]. a screw-thread and jam-nut, g, 011 the other end, so that when the parts of my box are placed in their proper relative positions, they can be hold together by tightening the nut g.
lt will be seen that, by the flanges a b, the body A is strengthened, and a broad surface is formed ab the point of oontact of the body wioh the t0p and bottom of the box, so that, by means of the flanges a b, in conjunction with the flange d of the top, and the groove e of the bottom, a close joint is produced between the parts of my box; and if t;he box is made of polygonal shape, the parts, moreover, are provented from shifting or turning on the holt; D.
In the interior of my box is placed a standard, E, in form of a tube, which is placed around the holt D, and made of such length that it extends from the top B to the bottom O, thus serving to support these parts, and to prevent them from bulging.
What I c1aim as new, and desire 170 secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. 'Ihe combination, in a money-box, of a sheet-metaal body having an outwardly-projecting flange or bead on its upper and lower edges, a sheet mebal top, having a downwardly-projecting flange 0n ins outer edge, fitting over the flange on the upper edge of the body, a sheet-metal bottom, having a groove for the reception of the flange 011 the lower edge of the body, and a serew-bolt f'or joining the parts together, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination, in a money-box, of a sheet-metal body, top, and bottom, a screwholt for joining the parts together, and a tnbular standard, whichsurrounds the screwholt in the interior of the box and supports the top and bottom thereof, substantially a.s desoribed.
In testimony that; I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my band and seal this 11th day of July, 1877.
G. ZUGKSOHWERDT.
