I IMPROVEMENT lN SELF-FEEDING STOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 195,05 H, dated September 11, 1877 application filed May 23, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE BEDDOW, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented an Improvement in Self-Feeding Stoves, of which the following is a specification:
My improvement has relation to that class of heating and cooking stoves in which there is an open space between the lower end of a fingered fire-pot and the surface of the grate. through which to remove ashes, clinkers, and waste or' refuse, and to observe the condition of the fire, such stoves being known as anticlinker stoves; and in practice it has been found that they are wasteful of fuel, from two causes. The first is imperfect combustion of fuel at the skirt of the fire-pot, by reason of the great volume of cold air passing over it into the fire-pot instead of passing up through the grate and fuel, as heretofore. I do not wish to be confined to a ring to be raised above the plane of the grate, as it is evident that it may be suspended on the firepot, so as to be lowered down to the surface of the grate.
I am aware that stoves have heretofore been constructed having grates adapted to be adjusted vertically, and by such movement to close or open a space below the rim of the firepot; and I hereby disclaim the same as making any part of my invention; but
What I claim as my invention is The combination, with a fire-pot and a grate Without vertical movement supported below the same, of a ring adapted to be moved independently of the grate and to inclose entirely or disclose the space between the lower end of the fire-pot and such grate, substantially as described and shown.
