DECORATION AND LIGHT HOLDER Filed July 5, 1952 IN VENTB,
Patented F el). 27, 1934 `muri-:D STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
My invention relates to a certain type or class of decoration holding devices and may best be designated as a decoration and light holder.
The main object is to provide a decoration holding device designed particularly for table use in homes, hotels, banquet halls or any other locality where decorative lighting and ornamental decorations and lights are desired for various occasions such as birthday anniversaries, weddings, banquets, etc. and etc.
My device in preferred forms and construction is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,-a
Fig. 1 is a top view of a circular, sectional form of my device placed, for illustrative purpose, concentric of a cake on a table.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of Fig. 1, and additionally a. series of candles retained upright in the device.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view of two adjacent ends of the sectional holder separated sufficient- 1y to clearly illustrate the means for joining the sections.
Fig. 4 is a plan View of a single section of the circular form of my device, in reduced scale.
Fig. 5 is a perspective View of a modified form of the decoration holding device.
Fig. 6 is a sectional detail, in about full scale, of a candle holder retained in the circular rim type of my device, about as on line 6-6 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 7 is an enlarged sectional detail about as at line 7-7 of Fig. 5 and a portion of my metal device applied to the base B.
Referring to the drawing by reference numerals 8 designates a cake or any other suitable object intended to be attractively ornamented, said cake having a central aperture 8A in which may be placed a iiower vase 9 supported within said aperture on the cake plate 10 resting on a table 11 or the like.
The ornament and light holder, in preferred form, comprises a ring R made of a series of connected, like sheet metal strips, as 12 in Fig. 4 said strips having means for suitable, detachable connection holding the attached sections in circular formation, as ring R. The sections are quadrangular elongated formation comprising each a strip of sheet metal normally in vertical plane and about 1% of an inch wide, the length being optional. Each strip has further an integral extension or finger directed downwardly and located preferably near one end of the strip.
13 are a series of pairs of eyelets in each strip, each pair being vertically spaced and comprising each eyelet a struckout part of the strip itself and being of course punched thus by suitable means. The eyes or openings of said eyelets are of course open vertically and in vertical alinement enabling a pin or wire 14 to be inserted downwardly through each pair of eyelets and be retained therein in vertical position.
In the drawing, the pins 14 are shown as comprising the lower integral part of a candle holder of which the holders are designated 14H and candles are designated 15. It will be understood however that the holders 14H are not necessarily candle holders but may be any suitable fancy design each complete in itself or may comprise an electric bulb socket.
The sections or strips are detachably joined together by a pin 14 engaging in the end pair of eyelets of one strip and retaining the adjoining end part of the next strip between said pin and the strip, the said adjoining end of the next strip being provided with a pair of vertically spaced apertures 16 arranged to straddle the said eyelet parts when the said adjoining ends are overlapped and thus ntted together. Thus any numi ber of sections 12 may be connected to form a ring of any suitable size, the extensions 12F of the series of sections supporting the ring in spaced parallel relation over a surface 11 (as best shown in Fig. 2).
In the modification Fig. 5 the decoration holder idea is presented as a circular base 17 supported by fixed blocks 12F corresponding to the fingers 12F and support the base 17 in raised plane. In the base is provided a circular row of apertures or bores 18 for removably retaining the holders 14-14H. A cake or other article, designated 8, and intended to be displayed on the base, is placed thereon concentric of the apertures 18.
Y In Fig. 7 the use of the sectional metal ring 12 is combined with the base 17, the lingers or spacers 12F of the metal ring being simply bent outward and then down as at 12B tc frictionally engage the outer and upper perimetral portions of base 17 to frictionally retain the sectional ring 12 concentrically thereon.
The uses of my device may be quite numerous and particularly for decorative table and display use. For example at an anniversary celebration a birthday cake may be attractively displayed and illuminated by a suitable number of lighted candies (see Fig. 2). Candle holders of the type shown are readily obtained for the purpose. Usually such candle holders have hitherto been stuck.
cake is untouched and when ready to be cut the light holder device is readily removed and may be placed to one side and the candles may be allowed to continue burning during the remainder of a banquet meal or anniversary celebration.
I claim:
A portable decoration holder and illumination device comprising a sectional encircling device of like sheet metal sections, each arranged upright and in arcuate form horizontally, means for removably connecting adjacent end parts of the sections, means in each section for removably retaining a predetermined number of decoration holders to be exposed above the upper edge of thesection, said decoration holding means and end yIl 10
