PR ICE TAG HOLDER Filed May 12, 1933 E- PRIC Inventor flllorney Patented Feb. 20, 1934 PRICE TAG HOLDER Fritz Spindler, St. Louis, Mo.
Application May 12, 1933. Serial No. 670,785
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a device for securing a price tag to a garment or the like, and consists in the provision of a clip which may be readily attached to the garment and the price tag, for holding the latter in a position on the garment to fully expose the advertising data on the price tag.
Briefly, the invention consists in the provision of a spring clip of extremely simple construction, which can be manufactured at a normal cost, and which is free or all protuberances or projections as might tear and otherwise damage the cloth to which the price tag is to be applied.
The invention, together with its numerous objects and advantages will be best understood from a study of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein is illustrated a preferred embodiment of the invention.
It is to be understood at the outset, that the invention is not intended to be restricted to the precise details of construction, combination and arrangement of elements, or material as herein shown and specified, otherwise than as may be found necessary to meet the requirements of prior art and scope of the appended claim.
In the drawing:-
Figure 1 is an elevational view, illustrating the application of the invention.
Figure 2 is an elevational view of the clip per se, and
Figure 3 is a fragmentary side edge elevational view of the clip.
Referring to the drawing by reference numerals, it will be seen that the clip is formed from a single length of spring wire bent in a suitable manner to provide a pair of co-acting, substantially U-shaped spring jaws 5, 6, which lie, as will be clear from a study of Figure 3, in substantially the same vertical plane with the jaw 6 arranged within the jaw 5, and with one side 'I of the jaw 6 connected with the side 8 of the jaw 5, through the medium. of a curved portion 9 of the wire. The free end of the side 7A of jaw 6 is provided with a return bend 10 and the free end of the side 8A of the jaw 5 and is also provided with a return bend 11, the bends 10, 11, extending in reverse directions, as will be clear from a study of Figure 3. By bending the ends of the wire to form the return bends 10, 11, the possibility of the ends of the wire penetrating either the price tag or the cloth of the garment will be reduced to a minimum.
In actual practice, as shown in Figure 1, the clip is engaged with the cloth 12 of the garment,
and the price tag 13 with one jaw, in the present instance the jaw 8, the jaw 6 engaging the tag 13, and the other jaw, in the present instance the jaw 5 engaging the cloth 12 of the garment, at the side thereof opposite to the price tag 13.
The manner of applying the clip to the garment and tag is thought apparent, the jaws being bent laterally to receive therebetween the cloth and the price tag, the portion 9 forming a closed end for the clip and extending across the adjacent edges of the cloth 12 and tag 13 as clearly shown in Figure 1.
The portion of the wire forming the closed end of the jaw 5, that is to say, the portion of the wire connecting one end of the side 8, 8A, of the jaw 5, is suitably worked to provide a substantially corrugated end portion 14 to bear against the card 13 to insure a more positive engagement of the clip with the card 13 for securing the tag 13 positively against longitudinal and angular movement.
appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what I wish to claim, is:-
A spring clip of the character described, formed from a single length of wire and comprising a pair of co-acting substantially U-shaped jaws lying in substantially the same plane and arranged one within the other, said jaws having the sides thereof converging at one end of the clip, a curved connecting part connecting one side of the inner jaw with a side of the outer jaw remote from said one side of the inner jaw, and. each of said jaws having the free side thereof at the terminal portion of the wire provided with a return bend, and the outer one of said jaws at the closed end of the U being worked to provide a substantially corrugated gripping part for said outer jaw.
