IMPROVEMENT IN MUCI LAG E-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 194,632, dated August 28, 1877 application filed June 30, 1877.
ments in those mucilage-bottles in which the mucilage is applied by means of a sponge attached to the cap of the bottle that the required quantity of mucilage is supplied directly to the sponge on turning the bottle, and the sponge kept moist for use by a small storage-receptacle formed in the cap at the base of the sponge.
The invention consists of the flanged cap of a mucilagebottle, having a central perforation and outer rim, that forms, with a circumferential flange of the cap, a space for fastening the base of the conical sponge, which is attached by a toothed ring, over which the flange is drawn. The interior of the sponge is conically hollowed out to admit the easy passage of the mucilage, and the shedding of the sameinto the space or reservoir between rim, flange, and ring when the bottle is placed in upright position after use.
in the drawing, A represents a mucilagebottle, of any suitable size and shape, and B a metallic cup, thatis screwed to a glass thread on the neck of the bottle.
The metallic cap B is provided with a central perforation, a, of suitable size, with an outer rim, b, aroundthe perforation, and with a circumferential flange, d, that extends to greater height than the rim b, and is made tapering toward the edge.
A sponge, G, of conical shape, is secured to the cap, into the space between rim and flange, by means of a ring, D, with bottom projections or teeth 0, that enter the sponge and form a strong and reliable fastening for the same, when the ring is firmly secured by drawing in the edge of the flange over the ring.
The firm binding of the toothed ring on the sponge produces the reliable and strong con- -lnucilage to the sponge when the bottle is overturned, and for assisting the settling or shedding of the mucilage in the sponge along the rim to the base part of the sponge into the space between ring, rim, and flange, where a small reservoir of mucilage is formed that keeps the sponge moist for a longer period,
and renders thereby the bottle available for use in a superior manner.
The cap B is covered by a second exterior cap, E, that slides readily over it without touching the sponge, so as to protect the same, and keep the sponge clean and moist.
The cap E is removed when the bottle is desired to be used, the mucilage being supplied whenever required by turniug the bottle and passing the sponge over the parts to be pasted together. v
The direct supply of the mucilage to the sponge without any intermediate device, and the settling and storing of the mucilage in the sponge in the small exterior reservoir formed in the fixed cap, constitute the main advantages of this mucilage-bottle.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcut- 1. The sponge O of a mucilage-bottle, provided with a median cavity, whose bottom aperture registers with the perforation of a cap, B, as and for the purpose specified.
2. The fixed cap B, having central exit-perforation, outer rim, and circumferential binding-flange, in combination with the conical sponge U and the toothed fastening-ring D, substantially as shown and described.
