"[0 all whom it mag concern Be it known that I, J OHN AENIS, of Cleve land, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Vent- Plug, which is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawing, in which thefigure is a vertical half-section.

The object of my invention is to furnish a device to'be used in conjunction with a faucet for introducing air into beer-barrels, as hereinafter described and claimed.

A packing-rim g, D, is interposed between the cap 0 and the top of the plug A. Through the plug B is made an opening, (1, corresponding with the passage through the plug A. Through the plug Bis made the vent-opening, which consists of a narrow passage, 1), through the neck of the plug B, connecting the opening 01 with a chamber, W, in the head of said plug. Into the head of said plug B is placed a nipple, E, provided with a check-valve, e, the purpose ofwhich is hereinafter shown. Through the plug A is put the faucet for drawing off the contents of a barrel.

The manner of applying this plug is as follows: When the plug is to be inserted in a barrel, the cross-plug B is turned a quarterway round, which shuts .off the vent-opening b from the passage 01 in the plug A. The plug is then driven into the barrel, after which the faucet is inserted through the cap O and packing 0 then the cross-plug B is turned back again to the position seen in the drawing, and the faucet is pushed in down to its place in the barrel, and is then ready for use. To the nipple E is to be attached a pipe connecting with a bellows or air-pump.

The tube of the faucet should not be so large as to fill the passage through the plug, but sutficiently smaller to allow admission of air around it from the vent-opening into the barrel.

Having described my invention, I claim- The herein described vent-plug, consisting of the hollow plug A, having the open cap 0, said cap having the flange c, packing c and the packing-ring D, the cross-plug B, having the vent-opening b, chamber 1) in the head, the nipple E, having the check-valve e, the construction, arrangement, and operation being I substantially as shown and described.
