Description
0. I. STRUVE Jan. 2, 1-934.
CONTAINER Filed May 17, 1952 Patented Jan. 2, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFlCE CONTAINER Oscar I. Struve, Buflalo, N. Y.
Application May 17, 1932. Serial No. 611,889
My invention relates to improvements in containers and the object of my invention is to devise a flexible container preferably made of paper and more particularly designed as a liner for waste paper baskets or household garbage containers, in the use of which, the container when filled may be lifted bodily from out of the waste paper basket, garbage pail or any other receptacle and disposed of. 1
Another object of my invention is to devise a container or receptacle liner of this type which is provided with a plurality of flap members which normally hang downwardly when the container is in use, and which can be swung upwardly to cover the container when it is being removed for disposal purposes from the receptacle in which it is contained.
A still further object of my invention is to provide the flaps of my container with a draw string whereby they can be readily drawn together over the top of the container for removal purposes.
My invention consists of a. container or liner constructed and arranged all as hereinafter more particuluarly described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. l is a perspective view of a receptacle having my container or liner positioned therein.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of my container showing the flaps folded upwardly after the container is filled and removed from the receptacle, and
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the paper blank from which the receptacle is formed.
Like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different views in the drawing.
The blank as illustrated in Fig. 3 consists of four sides 1 so that a four sided container is formed, but it is of course to be understood that any number of sides can be used dependent upon how close to cylindrical it is desired to make the container. One edge of the container is formed with a lip 2 which is adapted to be gummed or otherwise secured to the other edge portion 3 of the container when the container is formed therefrom.
The lower bottom edges 4 of the sides 3 are formed with integral bottom portions 5 which are folded together and gummed in any suitable manner to form the bottom of the container.
In the blank illustrated in the drawing the bottom portions 5 are folded along the crease lines 6 in the same manner as the end of a package wrappin is folded.
The upper edges 7 of the sides 1 are formed with integral flaps 8 of rectangular shape and formed with convex free edges 9. The apexes of the flap members are formed with rings 10 through which a draw string 11 is looped, such string being of greater length than the circumference of the container or the receptacle in which it is positioned. The container or liner is preferably formed of paper or any other cheap flexible material which can be thrown away. The containers of course are made of different sizes dependent upon the type of receptacle with which they are used.-
In Fig. 1 of the drawing the container is shown in a receptacle 12, the flaps 8 extending down the outside of the receptacle and the draw string 11 looped therearound. When the container or liner has been filled the draw string 11 is lifted upwardly thereby swinging the flaps 8 upwardly into the position illustrated in Fig. 2 and the container or fillerremoved from its receptacle for disposal as illustrated in Fig. 2.
It is to be understood of course that the flaps 8 need not necessarily be positioned outside of the walls of the receptacle, but may be positioned inside the receptacle between the inner face. of the receptacle and the outer face of the container, or if desired my container can be used by itself without being positioned in a receptacle for if made of fairly stout paper it has sufflcient rigidity to stand unsupported.
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that I have devised a particularly simple liner or container of great utility which can be manufactured at a very reasonable cost and which will have many uses in the home, and although I have shown and described a particular embodiment of my invention it is to be understood that I can make such changes and alterations as I may deem necessary from time to time without departing from the spirit of my invention as set forth in the appended claims.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A liner for removable insertion into an open topped container of the character described comprising a plurality of side members, a bottom portion, a plurality of substantially triangular flaps each formed integrally upon the upper edge of a side member and adapted to extend down the outside of the container, the free edges of the flaps being convexed and a draw string looped through orifices in the bottoms of the flaps.
2. A liner for removable insertion into an open topped container of the character described comprising a bag formed of flexible material and another position, and a. loose draw string looped having a. normally open top, a plurality of flaps through orifices in the free ends of the flaps and also formed of flexible material and extending adapted to extend around the bag when the flaps from the upper edge of the bag to hang. down are hanging down.
5 the outside of the bag in one position and to OSCAR I. STRUVE.
