Claims. (Cl. 105-406) The invention relates to railway cars and more marginal portions -16-17 'in substantially a particularly to open top gondola or hopper cars single plane, which portions are connected to and the object of the invention isA to increase the the corner posts 9, top stiiener 'I and oor 3, cubical capacity of the car without increasing respectively. This makes a very simple pressing 5 the length, width or height of the car and with for a metallic plate between reciprocating dies. 60 practically no increase in Weight of the car. The bulged central portion 13 is connected to Another object is to provide a Vcar of such the marginal portions by webs -21--22 which increased cubical capacity that will discharge are inclined so that the car will discharge its the load of the car when dumped in a tipple. load when turned upside down (or nearly so) in l0 My nVenlOIl iS especially adopted t0 01d 0r an unloading machine or tipple, as it is called. 65 existing cars wherein it is necessary to remove The Slope 0f the upper inclined pol-tion 20 is and replace the Old end Wall 011 accclmt 0f cOI- preferably made less than the other inclined VIOSOII because, in Such cases, the COIIleI DOS portions so as to assure the car clearing its load. and end post are usually retained in the carand In the modiiication Shown in Figs, 4, 5 and 6 "15 my mDIOVed end Wall may be punched With the lower part of the bulged portion 40 com- 70 120 car itself. The construction is also adaptable toV wherein Fig. 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1,

By this arrangement the loadin the 80 Vcar may be heaped from end to end of the car. The upper margin 54 of the outwardly bulged portion extends up into the part of the end wall above the side walls and preferably conand Fig. 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Figs. 4, 5 and 6 show a modied form, wherein Fig. 571s a section on line 5--5 of Fig. 4, and Fig. 6 is a top plan view of Fig. 4.
