LIP STICK HOLDER Filed March 25, 1952 zyz Inventor I ZZvzer Q l 66 Patented Nov. 28, 1933 LIP STICK HOLDER Elmer Q. Lee, Honolulu, Territory of Hawaii Application March 25, 1932. Serial No. l i ()1,-2,2, ,v
' 1 Claim. (01. 206-56) This invention relates broadly to toilet articles, :and more particularly to a receptacle or holder especially adapted to contain a lipstick.
In accordance with the present invention a container fora lipstick is provided, having means for ejecting the lipstick, and for securing the same against casual ejection, and at the desired adjustment. The invention together with its numerous objects and advantages will be best understood from a study of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the holder.
v Figure 2 is a sectional view on an enlarged scale, taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1. Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken sfulpstantially on the line 33 of Figure 2. Figure 4 is an elevational view of the container, follower and locking device therefor being ed. gufra 5 is an elevational view of the follower.
l R'eferring more in detail to the drawing it will be that the lipstick holder comprises a cy- :lin cal leasing or receptacle 10 provided with a 116. or closure 11 united therewith as by a hinge er; 10 whereby the lid 11 is releasably retained in Y closed position.
gMounte'd to reciprocate within the container -'1,0 .is a-- follower 14 that is provided in its upper endiwith a recess 14a receiving one end of a lip- ;stick 15. In its lower end the follower 14 is pro- -vided with a recess 14b receiving one end or a spring 16 of. the coil type, and whose lower end bears against the bottom wall of the container as shown in Figure 2. Manifestly under action of spring 16 the follower 14 is forced upwardly for ejecting the lipstick15,
The follower 14 is provided with a longitudinal row of rack teeth 17 paralleling a slot 18 provided in the peripheral wall of the container 10 and elongated longitudinally of the container.
A lever or finger 19 is pivoted adjacent one end as at 20 to the peripheral wall of the container 10 above the slot 18 and adjacent its pivoted end, the lever 19 is provided with a locking projection 21 engageable with the rack teeth 17 for securing the follower at the desired adjustment. .1 In the construction shown, preferably a spring hinge 20 is employed so that the locking lug 21 is normally urged inwardly of the slot 13 and in the path of the teeth 1'7.
The follower 14 is retained against rotative movement relative to the container, through the medium of 3.111% or pin 22 projecting radially therefrom adjacent the lower end oi the follower and operating in the slot 18.
As is thought apparent, in actual practice, with the lid 11 open, an ejection of the lipstick may be accomplished by rotating the lever 19 in a clockwise direction whereby to move the locking lug 21 out of engagement with the teeth 17 thereby releasing the follower and the latter under action of spring 16 will then move upwardly.
Upon release of pressure on the lever 19, the same under the action of the spring of the hinge will rotate'in an anti-clockwise direction whereupon locking lug 21 will engage with one of the teeth 1'7 retarding further upward movement of the follower ,so that the latter will then be held at the desired adjustment.
It will be further noted, that the container may be held in one hand, and a release of the latch 13, and also control of operation of these lever 19 may be accomplished by the fingers of said hand whereby an opening of the holder, and an adjustment of the lipstick may be conveniently effected.
Even though I have herein shown and de-- scribed the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that in actual practice, other forms of the invention may be found desirable, and accordingly I claim all such forms of the invention to which I am entitled in View of the requirements of the prior art and the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
In a holder for lipsticks, a cylindrical recep tacle having a peripheral wall provided with a longitudinal slot, a substantially cylindrical follower mounted ior reciprocation within said receptacle and provided intermediate its ends with a partition dividing the follower into two re cesses one of which opens at the top of the follower and is adapted to receive therein one end of a lipstick, and the other of which recesses opens at the bottom of the follower, a spring, arranged in the receptacle and having one end seating against the bottom of the receptacle and a second end arranged in the recess opening at the bottom of the follower with the inner end of the spring seating againstsaid partition for nor-v mally urging the follower upwardly with respect to the bottom of the receptacle; said follower also having a peripheral wall provided with a longitudinal series of rack teeth disposed opposite to the aforementioned slot, and a lug on the periph- 5 eral wall at the lower end. of the follower operating in said slot to retain the follower against angular movement; and a spring pressed lever ELMER Q.
