Description
O. SPAHR CONTAINER Nov. 14, 1933.
Filed July 28, 1951 By @M f1 Patented Nov. 14, 1933 PATENroFFicE V Y Y CONTAINER Otto Spahr, Philadelphia, Pa. Application July 28, 1931.. `Serial No. 553,507
j `5 claims. (c1. 15-. 134) This invention relatesY to an improvement in attachment for Containers. More particularly, this invention relates to an attachment for tubes adapted to contain semi-fluid or .paste-like substances as, for example, cold cream, lotions, shoev polish,'shaving soapv or cream, or the like, Whereby an applying brush Will be provided in combination with the tube.
Heretofore various forms of combined containers and applying brushes have been provided, but have been open toA various objections and have proved relatively unsatisfactory.
Inaccordance with this inventiona device is provided forl 'attachment to a tube containing shaving soap, cold cream, shoe polish, and the like, the device being of such a character that the tube- Will be effectively stoppered and the brush element adequately protected when not in use,` and at the Sametime, the tube may be readily opened for delivery of the contents fory application and rubbing by the brush' element,`
` which at the same time Will be available for apwith a peripheral flange d and serves to support plication of the tube contents.
Having indicated in a general Way the nature and purpose of this invention, I Will now proceed to a detailed description of a preferred embodiment thereof in connection with a tube of shaving soap, With reference to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is an elevation, partly `broken away and partly in section, of a tube of shaving soap in combination with the device V`involving this invention. n
Figure 2 is a plan View of the stoppering and brush protecting element.
Figure 3 is a vievv, partly in section, of the subject of Figure 1, with a stoppering Vand brush protecting element removed.
In the several gures'a indicatesany ordinary, well known form of tube containing shaving soap, provided, as is usual, with an externally threaded neck b. c indicates a brush supporting member, circular in form and provided with a central aperture threaded vfor engagement with the neck b of the tube. The member c is provided a brush e. The brush e is secured to the member .c Within the flange d.- The brush e may be of any structure, but is desirably circular in form with a central aperture and preferably is madeV of spongy rubber in the form of an annulus, brisvtle members being formed by slitting on radial lines, as indicated lat f, f, Figure 3.
g indicates a stoppering and brush protecting member, circular in form and provided with a a, the disc n being of such size as to extend over the upper portion of the tube and beyond the shoulder of the tube, as shown in Figure 1. The assembly of the device in accordance'with this invention, in'combination with a tube of shaving soap, Will, it is believed, be obvious from an inspection of Figure 1, `from which it will be observed that-the Washer n is slipped over'the upper portionof-fthe tube, thev member'c carrying the brush e is then threaded on the neck of the tube and finally the stopperin'gi and brush pro'- 75 tecting member g is threaded on to the neck of the tube.l through engagement .of the threads 1' in the inner Wall of the recess formed inthe boss z' with the threadson the neck of the tube. It will be noted that the under surface of the 30 member c is formed to conform With the surface of the tube in'its extension from the base of thek neck.
When the member g is threaded on to the neck of the tube a, thebrush member c carried by the .g5 member c will extend into the annular recess m forced between the boss-i and flange h and the flange h Will embrace member c. When-the member 7c is in closing position the tubec will be effectively stoppered by engagement of the bottom of the recess, in rboss z or of cork disk'lc'"V With the top of neck b. a
When it is desired to utilize the embodiment of my invention described, it is only necessary to screw-off the membery g,.thus unstoppering thetube a and exposing the brush member e. Y The device, as will be obvious, may be used by merely squeezing soap out of the tube a and applying it and rubbing up a lather with the brush c. v
It Will be noted that the soft rubber Washer n .,100 will prevent injury to the face from the shoulder of the tube, and also prevent the lather from coming in contact with thetube or hands, while the flange d on the member c, which flange it Will be noted is slightly higher'than the neck lis-105 When the member c is screwed down upon the neck b, will protect the face from injury by the end of the neck b, andthe sponge rubber brush when in use, will overlap edge of flange d to It will now be noted that by virtue of this invention an efcient combination of a brush with a tube of shaving soap is provided, and in particular a combination of such character as to be efcient in operation With protection against injury to the face by any portion of the tube, and the edge of iiange d, and of such a character as `to insure effective stoppering of the tube and protection of the brush when not in use. It Will be noted that the brush is fully protected so that it cannot contact with and soil, for example, clothes with Which the tube may be packed in a bag.
It will be appreciated that the brush element may be variously constructed and of various materials depending upon the contents of the tubes. Thus, for example, the brush may be `an ordinary bristle brush on annulus of felt, etc. As will be obvious, the device will be operated as described above irrespective of the substance contained by the tubes.
What I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is: Y
1. In combination a tube having a threaded neck, a member adapted for threaded engagevupon the neck of the tube and said ange being adapted to surround such rst member.
i 'la 3. In combination a tube having a threaded neck, an annular member provided With a central aperture internally threaded for engagement with said neck, said member being provided with a peripheral flange, an annular brush carried by said member within said ange, a second mem-` ber provided with a central boss and a peripheral flange, said boss being recessed and internally threaded for engagement With said neck, said ange on said last mentioned member being adapted to embrace said first mentioned member and an insert in said recess in said second mentioned member adapted to stopper said tube.
, 4. In combination a tube having a threaded neck, an annular member provided with a central aperture internally threaded for engagement ternally threaded for engagement with said neck, ,d
said Yflange on said last mentioned member being adapted to` embrace said rst mentioned member and an insert in said recess in said 'sec- 0nd mentioned member adapted to stopper said tube. e
5. In combination a tube having a threaded neck, a resilient disc extending about the end portion of said tube adjacent to said neck, a meme ber adapted for threaded engagement'vvith said neck, a brush carried by said member, `a `second Vmember adapted for threaded engagement with fris "iso
