Description

Nov. 7, 1933. w, MELLMANN 1,934,317
HOLLOW STONE CEILING Filed April 8, 1931 2 Sheets-Sheet 1 1933- w MELLMANN HQLLOW STONE CEILING Filed April 8, 1931 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Patented Nov. 7, 1933 UNITED STATES HOLLOW STONE CEILING Willy Mellmann, Lubcck, Germany Application April 8, 1931, Serial No. 528,658, and in Germany November 22, 1930 5 Claims.
Ceilings of previously manufactured reinforced concrete beams covered on their lower side with clay slabs, of hollow stones of burned clay suspended between these beams and of a concrete cover are known. In such ceilings there is however no groove near the lower side between two directly juxtaposed beams for the insertion of the main reinforcing bar, and there is further no possibility that the portions of the beams projecting from the clay slabs are enclosed on all sides by the concrete cover.
In distinction hereof the invention is characterized in that the clay slabs of two directly juxtaposed beams form by means of their facing bevelled faces a very low situated groove, and that the portions of the beams projecting from the clay slabs are exposed on all sides. Owing to this arrangement the main reinforcing bar has the lowest possible position and the concrete cover encloses the concrete portion of the beams on all sides.
Two embodiments of the invention are illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings in which:
Fi l is a perspective view of a hollow stone ceiling.
Fig. 2 is a vertical cross section of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 shows in perspective view a second form of construction.
Fig. 4 is a cross section of Fig. 3.
Supporting beams, hollow stones, reinforcing bars and concrete cover are required for building a ceiling. lhe previously manufactured supporting beams consist of a clay slab a, which has a dove-tail-shaped longitudinal groove, and of a concrete rib I) cast in the longitudinal groove, and in which two reinforcing bars 0, c are embedded spaced by means of loops. The clay slabs a which cover the lower side of the reinforcing concrete beams 25 are bevelled on one of their longitudinal sides. Two beams b, b are placed the one directly at the side of the other so that the points of the bevelled sides join. In this manher a groove g is formed, in which the main reinforcing bar 1 is inserted so that it is situated in the same horizontal plane as the two reinforcing bars 0, c of the beams b, b. The hollow stones e are suspended between two pairs of beams, whereupon the concrete cover it is cast, which fills the groove g and covers on all sides the portion of the beams b, b, projecting from the clay slabs a.
In the form of construction shown in Figs. 3 and 4 the clay slab a covering the lower side of the reinforced concrete beams 12 is larger than in the form of construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and has two parallel longitudinal grooves k, 10 separated the one from the other by a longitudinal rib i. The previously manufactured reinforced concrete beam b with the reinforcing bars 0, 0 connected the one with the other by loops is laid in the groove is of the clay slab 0, whereas, the hollow stones 6 having been suspended, the groove 1: serves for the laying of the reinforcing bar 1. The covering concrete mass it fills the groove k and encloses on all sides the portion of the beam 1) projecting from the clay slab a.
I claim:
1. A ceiling of previously manufactured reinforced concrete beams, covered on the lower side with clay slabs, of hollow stones of burned clay suspended between said beams and of a concrete cover, in which facing longitudinal sides of the clay slabs of two directly juxtaposed beams are bevelled so that a groove is formed for the main reinforcing bar, the concrete mass filling said groove and enclosing on all sides the portion of the beams projecting from said clay slabs.
2. A ceiling as specified in claim 1 wherein the clay slabs each have a pair of deep longitudinal grooves, one groove being adapted to hold a beam and the other groove being adapted to hold a main reinforcing bar.
3. In a floor structure, a floor beam consisting of a clay slab having a longitudinal groove in its upper surface provided with undercut side walls, a preformed concrete member extending up from said slab and having its'lower part provided with a dovetail portion fitting in said groove to secure the slab to the concrete, and a reinforcing bar extending longitudinally of the concrete in said groove.
4. In a floor structure, a floor beamconsisting of a clay slab having a longitudinal groove in its upper surface provided with undercut side walls, a preformed concrete member extending up from said slab and having its lower part provided with a dovetail portion fitting in said groove to secure the slab to the concrete, a reinforcing bar extending longitudinally of the concrete in said groove, said slab extending laterally of the concrete and shaped to provide space for a second reinforcing bar, a second reinforcing bar associated with said laterally extending portion of the slab, and a concrete filler mass enclosing the 11;.
parallel to the first groove, a second reinforcing bar in said second groove, and a concrete filler mass filling the second groove around the bar therein and covering the concrete portion of the beam.
