NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALONZO B. WOODARD, OF HORNELLSVILLE, NEW YORK.
IMPROLVEMENT IN HAME-FASTENERS.
Speeilication forming part of Letters Patent No. 193,067, dated July l0, 1877; application filed May 18, 1877.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALONZO B. WooDARD, of Hornellsville, in the county of Steuben and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Llame-Fastener, of which the following is a specification :4
This invention relates to an improved hamefastener, its object being to provide an automatically-acting fastening device, that will hold the more securely as the strain upon it is increased; and it consists of a metallic frame adapted to be attached to one of the hamestraps, and provided at its extremity with a pivoted curved piece, which forms, when closed, a recess for holding the same, the said hame setting over one end of said curved piece, and by its strain upon the same tending to keep said piece in a closed position, a flat spring being secured at one end to the plate, and adapted to bear at its other end on the pivoted piece for assisting to hold the latter in a closed position, as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the drawing, Figure l represents a view of my improved hame-fastener, showingA the parts open; Fig. 2, a similar View, showing the parts closed; and Fig. 3 a sectional view of my device, and Fig. 4 a bottom view of the same.
The letter A represents a metallic frame, adapted to be attached to the hame-strap B, being provided with cross-bars D E, one of which has a projection, F, over which one of the apertures in the strap may be made to engage to secure the plate thereon.
The front extremity of said plate is bent upwardly or curved, as shown, and has pivcan be secured under the end of the'crossbar D, when the piece G is in its closed or locked position.
The operation of my improvement will be obvious from the above description. The piece G being thrown back from the plate A, the loop of the haine is inserted, and the plate G brought into its closed position. The-spring, bearing against the closed end of said piece, tends to hold it in a closed position, and, in addition to this, the strain upon the `end of said piece also serves to hold it in locked position, clasping it tighter as the strain increases, thns insuring the utmost security.
The device is also simplel and cheap in its construction, and not liable to get out of order.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-` The combination, with the plate A and pivoted piece G, of the spring I, bearing against the same, as and for the purposes specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of the subscribing witnesses. l
