Serial No. 463,089 1 Claim. (Cl. 'rrz- -azo This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in connecters for connecting electrical conductors together.
The principal object of this invention is to 5 provide a connecter of the swivel type which in use will serve to eliminate twisting and distortion of the conductor wire. i
The following specification and claims will disa close to the reader, numerous other important obl jects and advantages.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 represents a side elevational view of the connecter.
Fig. 2 represents a longitudinal sectional view 15 through the connecter.
Fig. 3 represents anotherside elevational view more clearly showing the split conductor jacket, the insulating sleeve being removed.
Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 represents the negative wire and numeral 6 a positive wire or vice versa. A connecting unit generally referred to by numeral '7, serves to connect the ends of the positive wires 6, this unit including an elongated barrel 8 of some suitable nonconductive material with a pair of followers 99 slidable therein.
Interposed between the followers 99 is the compressible coiled spring 10 for maintaining the followers urged against the heads 11 of the pins 12,which project through the closed ends of the barrel 8 and also serving as a current conductor between the follower.
For electrically connecting the ends of the" negative wire 5 together, an elongated split jacket 13 is provided, with its end portions flanged inwardly as at 14. An annulus 15 issnugly disposed within'one end of the jacket 13 and abuts the flange 14 at this end of the jacket. To this annulus 15 one end of the negative wire 5 is con-' nected as at 16.
A tube 1'1 is located within the opposite end portion of the jacket 13, and has the ring18 snugly disposed thereon, said ring being provided with a rib 19 for engaging the inner spaced surface of the jacket 13. This ring 18 will abut the flange 14 in the manner shown.-
The inner end of the tube 17 has an outwardly disposed bead 20 thereon and interposed be- 5 tween this bead 20 and the ring 18 is thesleeve 21.
A hollow cylindrical sleeve 22 encompasses the intermediate portion of the barrel 8 and has a circumferentially extending shoulder 25 at an intermediate portion thereof. A relatively large 5 compressible coiled spring 26 is interposed between the annulus 15 and the shoulder 25. A
packing ring 27 is interposed between the opposite side of the shoulder 25 and the rib 20 on the tube 17. With the parts connected in this man- 7 her, swivel action is available between the tube 17 and the jacket 13.
A tube 28 of rubber or similar material is disposed over the entire connecter as in the manner shown in Fig. 1. While the foregoing specification specifies the details it is to be understood a that certain changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
