Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 192, 70l, dated July 3, 1877; application'filed March 24, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD S. LATHROP, of Savannah, in the county of Ohatham and State of Georgia, have invented a new and Improved Folding Toilet-Screen; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
I The object of my presentinvention is to furnish an improved folding toilet-screen for use in sleeping-apartments for shielding the person from observation whilebathing, dressing, or performing other operations of the toilet.
The construction and arrangement of parts are as hereinafter described and claimed, reference' being bad to accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View, representing the screen-frame extended, and Fig. 2 is a side view, representing the sam'e folded.
The lazy-tongs A are constructed in the usual manner. The outer end terminates in a curved bar, a, which is constructed with a socket, b, to receive the cross-bar B, that sustains one end of the screen proper, G. The other end of the lazy-tongs terminates in the bars a and b, the former of which is pivoted to a fixed point on the standard D, and
the other, b, projects through and works ina vertical slot, 0, in said standard. A knob, d, is affixed to the end of bar b, for convenience of attachment of a cord, E, which passes over the pulley G, and is used to extend or retract the screen 0. The rear end of thescreen or curtain O is supported by a cross-bar, E, which is held in a socket, g, formed on the upper end ot'ditferent lengths to support screens of different sizes; also to facilitate packing the frame in small space. The said bars B E may also be adjusted so as to project more or less on one side of the wash-stand, as the form of the apartment or convenience may require. They may be secured in any adjustment by clamp-screws v1.
I disclaim in this patent anything shown or described in the patent granted to me January 23, 1877, No. 186,583.
What I claim is- In combination with the lazy tongs arm at having socket b, and the bracket it having socket g, the adjustable screen -supporting cross-bars B E, as shown and described, for the purpose specified.-
EDWARD S. LATHROP.
