Description

p 1933. B. v. RADLEY 1,926,733
APPLIANCE FOR GOLF PRACTICE Original Filed Feb. 17, 1930 Patented Sept. 12, 1933 l I i ,926,733 T UNITED TATE Serial No; 532,142
- mins. (01. 273-35 This patent application is a divisional application on my ,United States patent application No.
428,982, filed February 17, 1930.
'This invention relates to appliances for golf practice. v n r This invention has for its object to provide an appliance for use in practicing golf putts only of a few yardsvlength, andis adapted for practice ill-dOOIS, although it'may be used out-of-dOors- In accordance with thisinventionl'provide an Fig. 1 is a plan of the appliance comprising the filling chute and the discharge chute; Figs. 2and 3 are sections along lines A--A and B.B in Fig. 1 4
along the line DD in Fig. 1. I
An inclined filling chute'24 is employed, one end 25 of such a chute resting on the ground or floor, and the other end 2'? sloping up in the direction of the rear end whereat the chute is provided with a tray 28having a central hole 26 below which is disposed an inclined chute26'. The tray 28 is bordered at theback and rear end by an upwardly extending barrier29, preferably adjustable vertically by a pin and slot device 29. The chute 24 is suitably supported by vertical legs 25, the walls 24' of the incline are carried only half-way up theincline, the upper halves being turned down to give stiffness to the upperportion. The chute 26' leads at its forward end into a ground. Chute 24 and tube 30 are connected bya hook and eye device 30'." The said discharge chute 32 has, as aforesaid a pivotal connectionat 34 with the tuloe 30. to admit of the chute 32 being moved to right or left on the ground. The chute 32 serves'as a guide for the balls leaving the bent tube 30 and the position to which the chute 32 is turned determines the direction the balls. will take on running out of it. Its position is fixed by a screw 35. V
With short putts up-to about a yardor so, the discharge chute 32 would be turnedltowards the right sufliciently to direct the ball to the front of j straight line.
This channel is a bent tube 30 which is pivotally the inclined filling chute 24 aforesaid. When the discharge chute 32 is in thisposition, a ball after being played up the inclined filling chute 24 and into the cup or dished tray at the top thereof, will'return again to approximately the spot it was'played from, viz., in front of the filling chute 24;
With'longer putts the discharge chute 32 will be turned to the left away from the inclined fillv ing chute 24 so that the balls will be taken clear of the line of playand therefore out of the way of 'balls-subsequentlybeing played up the inclined filling chute 24.
The top'part of theinclined filling chute may be slightly dished so as to present a convex edge 76 to an approaching .ball instead of an edge with 'a j Variations m the constructional details nd arrangements of parts may be made, both in re spect of the filling chute and also inrespect of the 7 putting arrangements withoutfdeparting from the Fig. 4 is a vertical section of thedischarge chute spirit of .the invention. H
gWhat I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:-- r
,1. An appliance for golf practice comprising a 6 guide Jdevice provided with means for causing a golf ball therein to run on reaching the ground in the direction desired, said means comprising a pivoted discharge. chute. V
2. An appliance for golf practice comprising a 35 1 guide device provided with means, for causing a golf ball thereinto run on reachingthe ground inthe' direction desired,;said means comprising a pivoted discharge chute with means for securing said chute in position.
3. An appliance for golf practice comprising a chute havingan incline with a cup, at the top of v r it which is adapted to receive a golf ball when I suitably playedand a guide device provided with means for causing a golf ball placed therein to 95, run on reaching the groundin the direction desired,'said means comprising a pivoted discharge 1 chute. 4.- An appliance for golf practice comprising a chute having an incline with a cup atthe top of it which is adapted to'receive a golf ball when suitably playedand a guide device provided with 7' means for'causing agolf ball placed therein to run on reaching the ground in the direction desired, said means comprisinga pivoted discharge chutewith means for securing said chute in position.
