1 Claim.

This invention relates to a mop, and it is primarily an object of the invention to provide a device of this kind which is particularly adapted for use in dusting cleaning and polishing furniture, automobiles and the like.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind constructed in a manner whereby the dusting or wiping element may be caused to surround or embrace its work such as legs, rounds, or braces comprised in furniture structures, automobile spokes and the like.

A further object of. the invention is to provide a device of this kind comprising a forked resilient head upon'which a dusting and wiping ment being in the nature of a casing or envelope.

The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved mop whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less ex pensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.

In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying draw-- ing, whereinz- Figure 1 is a View in elevation of a duster constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention with a portion broken away;

Figure 2 is a view in end elevation of the mop head with the dusting element removed;

Figure 3 is a fragmentary elevational view of the device as illustrated in Figure 2.

As disclosed in the accompanying drawing, 1 denotes a handle member of desired length and produced from any preferred material.

Associated with one end of the handle member 1 is a head H. This head H, as herein disclosed,

r is produced from a single length of flat resilient material, said head comprising two curved arms The central part of the intermediate portion 3 of the head H, as herein set forth, has suitably secured thereto a ferrule 5 through which extends the inner end portion of 'the'handle memher 1, said ferrule 5 being anchored to the handle member 1 by a pin 6 or the like.

It is to be understood, however, that the head H may be secured as desired upon the handle member 1.

The dusting element D is preferably formed from the hide of a sheep with the wool thereon, the Wool being disposed outwardly. The element constitutes an elongated casing or envelope 7 of alength substantially equal to the combined lengths of the arms 2 and'the intermediate portion 3 of the head H. The outer wall of the casing or envelope 7 at its central portion is provided with an elongated opening 8.

By pressing the arms 2 one toward the other said arms 2 may be readily received within the casing or envelope 7 through the opening 8, such insertion being facilitated by the rounded extensions 4. Upon the arms 2 being relieved of strain they will automatically return, owing to their inherent resiliency, to their normal portion with the applied casing or envelope closely approxi-' mating the formation of the head H. This assembly is such to normally hold the applied casing or envelope 7 against displacement with the head H although when desired said casing or envelope maybe readily removed and replaced.

The inherent resiliency of the arms 2 also permits effective separation thereof when it is desired to cause the dusting element to engage around the legs, rounds or braces of furniture or around the spokes of automobiles and kindred work.

From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a mop constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and employed, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.

I claim:-

A mop comprisingjn combination, a head having a pair of resilient curved arms having their inbows opposed and adjacent each other, a flexible dusting element comprising an elongated L110 closed casing to receive the arms, a wall of the casing in its central portion having an opening of less length than the maximum distance betweeen said arms for the admission or withdrawal of the arms with respect to the casing, the inner portions of the arms being connected by an integral curved intermediate portion, the portions of the dusting element at opposite sides of VERA M. BULLIS.
