Serial No. 647,594
3 Claims. (Cl. 11849) My presei'itinvention relates to improvements in the construction and arrangement of an apparatus for the production of artificial silk and the like according to the pot-spinning process.
The invention hereinafter described constitutes a divisional application of Waldemar Zur Loewen, filed August 11, 1931; Serial Number 556,428. In that application mechanism is described whereby each filament guiding tube has an independent drive thus reducing the number of operative parts and rendering the operation of the machine more efficient.
In the apparatus disclosed and claimed therein, the thread is distributed in a rotating spinning pot or centrifuge by means of a reciprocating thread guide tube which passes into the spinning chamber through an opening formed in the cover thereof. The thread guide tube is actuated by the spinning pot or centrifuge motor and is so constructed as to be swung from over the spinning chamber to permit the cover and thread cake to be readily removed.
However, due to the tendency of the thread guide tube to be shifted by the high rate of rotation of the spinning pot during the spinning operation out of alinement with the vertical axis of the said spinning pot, the thread guide tube must be positioned with a high degree of accuracy concentric thereto. Any such shifting of the thread guide tube will result in the formation of a poor thread cake.
It is, therefore, an object of my present invention to provide an improved construction for maintaining the thread guide tube concentric to the'axis of the spinning pot during the spinning operation.
Another object of my present invention is to provide an improved construction for locating the thread guide tube concentric with respect to the axis of the spinning pot without necessitating complicated adjusting mechanism for the.
driving mechanism.
These and other objects of my present invention will become more apparent from a study of the following description and by reference to the attached drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of the apparatus, certain parts thereof being shown in section;
Figure 2 is an enlarged detail view of the conduit for the thread guide tube; and
Figure 3 is a similar view showing the arrange? ment of the driving mechanism.
Reciprocatory motion is imparted to the thread guide tube 10 for distributing the thread in the spinning pot 11 by the driving mechanism for the said pot in which is enclosed in the casing 12. The thread guide tube is operatively con nected thereto by means of a shaft 13 having a horizontal extension to which the tube is'secured by suitable clamping means l4.f A sleeve 15 is attached to the lower end of said shaft and couples the shaft 16 thereto. This latter shaft may be reciprocated in any desired manner by the motor. After the spinning operation has been completed, the shaft 13 is moved upwardly until the lower end of the thread guide tube is clear of the housing cover 19. The thread guide tube is then swung out of the way of the cover and is moved to a position to engage the lug 17 carried by the shaft 13 on the catch 18 carried by the bracket secured to the centrifuge housing.
Referring now to Figure 2, I have shown an improved construction for aligning the thread guide tube concentric with respect to the axis of the spinning pot. The opening 20 through which the thread guide tube enters the spinning pot is provided with a guide or fitting formed of two parts. The member '21 is provided with a shank 22, and a flange 23 which rests on the cover. As shown, this-member fits loosely in the opening in the cover and is secured in the desired position by the nut 24 threaded onto the shank portion 22. By this arrangement the guide or fitting may be adjustably positioned within the opening in the cover thus providing means to locate at all times the thread guide tube concentric to the axis of the spinning pot.
While I have herein illustrated the invention as embodied in a preferred form of construction it is to be understood that various modifications may be made in the design and arrangement of the parts thereof without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention.
Therefore, without limiting myself in this respect, I claim:
1. In a spinning mechanism comprising a spinning pot, a housing therefor, a cover for said housing having an opening formed centrally therein, a reciprocating thread guide tube to distribute thread in said spinning pot, means to position said thread guide concentric to the axis of said spinning pot, comprising a guide in which said thread guide tube reciprocates and loosely fitting said opening and means to secure said guide adjustably in said opening.
2. In a spinning mechanism comprising a spinning pot, a housing therefor, a cover for said housing having an opening formed centrally therein, a reciprocating thread guide tube to distribute thread in said spinning pot, means to positherein, a reciprocating thread guide tube to distribute thread in said pot, means to position said thread guide tube concentric to the axis of said pot comprising a guide in which said thread guide tube reciprocates and loosely fitting said opening said guide having a flange resting on said cover, a. threaded shank loosely fitting in said opening, and a nut threaded thereon to secure said guide adjustably in position.
WALDEMAR ZUR LoWEN.
