Description

OIL SWITCH WITH ROTATABLE CONTACT BRIDGE Filed March 5, 1931 Han} Houglc VENrom x MM.
Patented July 11, 1933 o 'UNE'EED STATES PATENT OFFICE FRANZ HGU-l, OF PILSEN, CZECHOSLOVAKIA OIL SWITCH WITH BOTATABLE CONTACT BRIDGE Application filed March 3, 1931, Serial No. 519,744, and in Czechoslovakia October 10, 1930.
This invention relates to an improved oil above-described disadvantages to be obviswitch with a rotary motion contact bridge, ated, and at the same time a number of conand in particular to a three phase arrangestructional improvements in oil switch dement of the same within a. single container. sign to be achieved.
The hitherto known designs of oil switches For the purpose oi enabling the lead-1n with a contact bridge rotatably movable on bushings to be brought closer together, witha horizontal plane could only as a rule be out danger oi collision between the rotatable employed in connection with single phase Contact bridges, these la'tterare dlsposed, in oil swit hes with upright cylindrical tanks. accordance with the invention, in dii lerent T k f thi t are l d i oth r planes. The above-mentioned shortening of 60 forms of oil switches, mainly for mechanical the are over path between the contacts of reasons, although in these cases the siace each phase, due to theprcsence of themetalllc ithi th t k i t tili d t h d s1 pportnig element, in the circuit-breaking advantage as in the case of the design with Lion is obviated by the employmentof iii a mt bl bl t t b id suitably arched or curvedrontact bridges. 65 The construction of three phase oil t further constructional improvement ofswitches, having all three phases arranged i'ected by the invention consists 1n eliminatin a single tank and employing rotatable cong e sp cial S] )r1ng heretofore used for tact bridges, has hitherto been attended with the a ing or the clrcuit-break ing movedifliculties, particularly in the matter of (11- 11181145 Of Elle Contact bridge, and in the emniensioning, since it has been necessary to 1 95 6 13 for this purpose, 1n con unction rovide uch clpara nce betyveell the Single, Vltll ZlpiJl'Qpl'lflDG ZlCCQSSOl'y lnQl/nS, of the phases that, in the circuitbrealnng position, spring which serves to maintain the con- N in which the contact bridges are generally at flc ng pressure between the contact bridge W la: right angles to the Plane on hi h th l dand the contacts pf the leads-1n.

This shape of tank is the utlhmtmn of the Mwanmges to be most suitable from the point of View of pow- 45 mined y the use of l'otambly movable er of resistance to internal pressure, as in the tact bl'ldges in Connection with Voltages 1111 case of the existing single phase switches, the der 3 kilOVOltS, at which Voltages it is usual space within the thnl; being at the same time to arrange all three Phases Wi EL Single particularly advantageously utilized. The container. contact bridges 2 of the separate phases are 0 The present invention enables all the arched in accordance with the invention, so
that the dstances Jetween the leads-in of one of the nose and the stop, at which point the phase, 0. g. lJQtY-KGQD the leadsan and 3, braking action is completed.
within the tank err he reduced to the lo vest It will be clear that the actual construclimit adn issihle i ployed, witho t over path by contact bridges tion of the switch. For the bling the intermediate dist-a leads-in 3, 4-, and 5 of the s 1) be reduced. as far ossible rate contact bridges are dis nice with the invention, on l'ere I, as shown in Fig. 2, so tln ridges during the circuit-breaki 1 c movcnien pass over or beneath each other.
It will be clear that, by this arrangement of the component par s, the dimensions of the tank can be kept down to a minimum, while the insulating clearances utilized to the best possi lo advantage.
For the purpose of braking the circuitbreaking movement of the contact bridges and. of shafts 7 whicl are of ins dating; material the spring: 8, which maintains a and constant pressure between the COHZZLCJLS 9 the contact br dges 2, is emp To the l d of the tank there is attacned a member which is provided with a stop 10 the arresting surface ll. of which is suitably inclii'ied in relation to the middle axis of the shaft 7. The shaft sn pport with. which the operating: rod 13 is adapted to engage, is rigidly eonnected to the shaft 7, and, is provided with a laterally proiectinafnose 14 which bears on the inclined arres-aing surface of the stop 10 during the circuit-breakin22 movement of the switch. In consequence of the angle of inclination of the bearing surface 11 of this stop the spring 8 compressed. and at the same time a braking: action exerted on the movement clearance is occrmied ugon the engagement limited by tion of the switch herein d scribed and illustrated is apahlc of various modifications as to detail, without alteration of or departure from the essential nature of the improvements prm 'idcd by this invention. t will also be clear that the individual haiurrs of the invention can be applied separately, and as such provide advantages over misting c1lrrent practice, while multiple advantages 2iccrue from the employment of all these features in combination.
I claim l. A polyphasc oil switch comprising; a tank, a plurality of shafts spaced lengthwise of and depending within the tank, and rotatable contact bridges supported by raid t by said lid and depending within the tank,
and rotatable contact bridges supported by said shafts at different hori'lzontal planes within the tank.
3. A polyphase oil switch comprising a tank, a pair of fixed contacts therein, a shaft of insulat ng material disposed intermediate the fixed contacts, a metal support carried by the shaft and spaced from the plane of the fixed contacts and a contact bridge carried by said metal support, said bridge being: curved to contact with the fixed contacts.
4. A polyphase oil switch comprising a tank, a shaft, means sup porting said shaft to limi (1 spring to urge the shaft axially in one direction, and a cam device comprising a cam and cam surface on the shaft and on the tanle switch opening; mo ement and so disposed as to shift the shaft axially against the urge of the spring whereby a braking effect is obtained.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature.
