Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 191,726, dated June 5, 1877; application filed April 12,1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY O. SPERRY, of
' Sheldon, in the county of OBrien and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and use- :ful Improvements in Churns; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a vertical section of my improved churn, and Fig. 2 is a side view of the dasher. Corresponding parts in the two figures are denoted by like letters.
cream, and thus assist the operation of churning. B is the dasher-staff, suitably shaped upon its external portion for convenience in operating, passing through an orifice, c, in the cover 0, and hung in the receptacle A upon an axis, cl, and reaching down in contact or very close proximity with the bottom thereof. The staff B is provided with two alternating series of paddles, c eff, one rectangular and the other diamond-shape, disposed one above and edgewise with the other. The object of this construction and arrangement is to cut the butter as it thickens and to lessen the splashing of the particles, &c.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The dasher consisting of the stafl' B, having two alternating series of paddles, 6 eff, one rectangular and the other diamond-shape, disposed one above and edgewise with the other, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY O. SPERRY.
