IMPROVEMENT IN CATTLE-STALLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 191,086, dated May 22, 1877 application tiled March 3, 1877.
To allwhom it may concern Be it known that I, EPHRAIM EDY WAD- DELL, of Gallipolis, in the county of Gallia and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stalls for Stabling Cattle, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a front view of three of my improved stalls. Fig. 2 is a detail section of one of the stalls.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawing, and then pointed out in the claim.
A represents the frame of the stable, and B are the front boards. To the central side posts of the frame A, at a suitable height, are attached the ends kof a cross-beam, E.
D are the partitions or gates that form the stalls. The central bars of the partitions D extend downward below the bottom of the said partitions, and are pivoted to a step attached to the door of the stable. The central bars of the partitions D extend up to the cross-bean1 E, and work in notches in the side edge of said cross-beam, where they are secured in place by buttons F, so that the said partitions D can be readily removed when desired, to enable the stable to be used for other purposes. The entrance for the cattle is at the rear part of one side.
When the cattle are to be put in, the partitions D are all turned across the stalls. One of the cattle is then allowed to enter, and when the rear stall is reached its partition is swung around into place and secured, and another of the cattle is let in and secured in the next'stall, and so on until all the cattle are in their stalls, or until all the stalls are lled. The partitions D are locked in place by sliding latches or bolts G, which are slid into mortisesin the front posts of the stable.
In the case of milk-cows a small door, C, is formed in the front of the stall, at the side of the opening through which the cattle feed, for the milkman to pass through.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentf The combination, in a cow-stable, of the frame A, pivoted side gates D, cross-beam E, and floor-steps, the gates being pivoted in cross-beam and steps, and between the front and rear ends of the stalls, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
EPHRAIM EDY WADDELL.
