This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a slipper.

The invention has for an object the construction of a slipper which is characterized by the provision of a bulldogs or similar face formed upon the vamp portion thereof with the nose bulged from the vamp portion to simulate the true nose of a dog.

The invention has for a still further obj ect 101 the arrangement of a tongue insert secured upon the vamp portion to simulate the dog having its `tongue extended.

11s another object of this invention it .is proposed to provide means for adjustably la holding the tongue at various extended positions.

Furthermore, the invention also proposes the construction of a last with a bulged portion adapted to readily manufacture the slipper above mentioned.

Another one of the objects of this invention is the construction of an article of the class described which is of simple durable construction, dependable in'use and eflicient in action and which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following de- 3o scription and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth. t

The slipper, according tothis invention, is composed 'of a slipper upper 10 attached be-V Itween an outer sole 11 and an inner sole 12. The outer sole 11 preferably should be made of soft leather and the inner sole 12 of flannel 55 or the like pad material. The shoe upper 1() preferably should be made of felt or other material from which slippers are genrally made. The vamp portion 13 of theslipper upper is formed with a bulged portion 14 adapted to simulate the nose ofa bulldog. rThis bulged portion is formed in the manufacture of the slipper by reason of having a similar bulge 15 upon a last r16 used in the manufacture of the same. The front portion of the last is rounded as indicated by numeral 17, so as to accentuate the proper shape of the bulldog head.

Trimming material is arranged upon the vamp portion to form the features of the bulldog. More particularly, there is a piece of material 18 shaped so as to forni the ears 19 and the jaw portion 2O of the dog. Eyes 21 are secured upon the material 18 at the correct portion thereof. Embroidery 22 or the like is arranged on the bulged portion 14 to conclude the representations of the dogs nose and also the mouth 23.

A small strip of material 24 is extended at the mouth and arranged so as to simulate the dogs tongue. This strip of material extends through a slit 25 in the vamp portion of the slipper to the'rear side. A reinforcement sheet 26 is secured upon the rear side upon the vamp portion of the slipper over the inner end of the tongue 24 and serves to firmly hold the tongue in place.

The modified form of the device illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6 shows a means for holding the tongue of the dog in various extended positions. More particularly, the tongue is indicated hy reference numeral 27 and is shown attached upon an elastic strip 28 which is secured at its Afree end 29 within the vamp of the shoe. The tongue 27 and strip 28 engage in between a pair of jaws 30. @ne of the jaws is attached by stitches 31 to the inside of the vamp portion of the shoe. Screws 32 engage through the vamp portion and through this jaw and threadedly extend lou into bosses 33 formed in the other jaw. The screws 32 straddle the tongue 27 and strip 28 as clearly shown in Fig. 6. When the screws 32 are slightly loosened the jaws release the tongue of the elastic strip 28 returns it into substantially its fully retracted position. rlhen it may be drawn out any distance and the screws 32 tightened so that the jaws hold the tongue in the new position. A reinforcement patch 34 is extended within the vamp across the bulged portion thereof so as to cover the jaw construction. lf the screws 32 are left loose, the tongue 27 may be pulled by the child as an entertainment.

lt is to be understood that not only bulldog falce but any other animal or human face may be used in accordance with my invention in which theA bulging of face is accentuated.

While l have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that l do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming` within the scope of the invention as deined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

l.V A slipper, comprising an upper section with` a vamp portion bulged to simulate the nose of a bulldog or the like, trimming on the vamp portion to conclude the face of the bulldog or the like, a tongue extended through the bulged vamp portion, an elastic strip attached to the inner end of the tongue forming a means for making said tongue extendable, a pair of jaws straddling said tongue and elastic strip, and means for clamping the jaws together to hold the tongue in various extended i positions comprising screws engaging through o-ne of the jaws and threadedly engaging into bosses formed up on the other jaw.

2. A slipper, comprising an upper portion bulged at the vamp section to simulate the nose of a bulldog, trimming on the outside of the vamp section to conclude the formation of the face, and a tongue strip being engaged through the vamp portion and secured upon the inside thereof.

A slipper, comprising an upper portion bulged at the vamp section to simulate the nose of a bulldog, trimming on the outside of the vamp section to conclude the formation of the face, and a tongue strip being engaged through the vamp portion and secured upon the inside thereof, the securing being accomplished by a patch secured on the inside of the vamp portion of the tongue.

A slipper, comprising an upper section with a vamp portion bulged to simulate the nose of a. bulldog or the like, trimming on the vamp portionv to conclude the face of the bulldog orl the like, a tongue extended through the vamp portion, an elastic strip attached to the inner end of the tongue forniing a means for making said tongue extendable, a pair of jaws straddling said tongue and elastic strip, and means for clamping the jaws together to hold the tongue in various extended positions comprising studs engaging through one of the jaws and detachably secured to the other 5. A slipper, comprising an upper section with a vamp portion bulged to simulate the nose of a bulldog, trimming on the vamp portion to conclude the face of the bulldog, a tongue extended through the vamp portion, an elastic strip attached to the inner end of the tongue, a pair of jaws straddling said tongue and elastic strip, and means for clamping the jaws together to hold the tongue in various extended positions.

6. A slipper, comprising an upper portion bulged at the vamp section to simulate the nose of a bulldog, trimming on the outside of the vamp section to conclude the formation of the face, a tongue included in said face and comprising a strip of material engaged through the vamp portion of the slipper, and means for holding the tongue in various extended positions.

A. slipper, comprising an upper portion bulged at the vamp section to simulate the nose of a bulldog, trimming on the outside of the vamp section to conclude the formation of the face, a tongue included in said face and comprising a strip of material engaged through the vamp portion of the slipper, and means for holding the tongue in various extended positions, said tongue being attached upon an elastic element tending to normally draw it completely inwards.
