Description
T. EATON, Jr.
THILL LOOP on SUPPORTER.
Patented May 22,1877.
N-PETERS, FNOTO-LITHDGRAPNER. WASHINGTON. D C,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS EATON, JR., OF BRUNSWICK, MAINE.
IMPROVEMENT IN THILL LOOPS OR SUPPORTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 190,963, dated May 22, 1877; application filed June 10, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it knownthat l, THOMAS EATON, Jr., of Brunswick, in theoounty of Cumberland and State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Thill-Loop, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a vertical section of my improved thill-loop, taken through the line 00 as, Fig. 2, showing it attached to a strap. Fig. 2 is a view of the outer side of the same, the strap being removed.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved thill-loop, which shall be .so constructed that it will not stick upon a thill to cause annoyance in detaching the horse, and to strain the saddle, thus enabling the saddle to last much longer, and enabling a smaller saddle-strap to be used than when the ordinary thill-loop is employed.
The invention consists in the thillloop made of cast metal, and provided with the two lugs and one or more pins, to adapt it to be attached to a saddle-strap, as hereinafter fully described.
A is the loop, the cavity of which is made somewhat in pear shape, and which is made of cast metal, and is highly polished, so that it may slide freely upon the thills. Upon the top of the loop A is formed a lug, 0, for the saddle-strap B to pass through, and which is so shaped that it may lie snugly upon said strap. Upon the bottom of the loop A is formed a lug, o for the strap B to pass through and receive the belly-band. Upon the outer side of the loop A are formed one or more pins, a to pass through holes in the strap B, to support the loop, and prevent it from slipping upon the said strap, and thus enable it to become connected with the saddlestrap without a buckle.
This manner of attachment holds the loop securely, and enables a smaller saddle-strap to be used than would otherwise be necessary.
The outer side of the lug a is made slightly crowning, and has a low rim around it to receive an ornament or a monogram, if desired.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The thill-loop A, made of cast metal, and provided with the lugs a. a and the pins a to adapt it to be attached to a saddle-strap, substantially as herein shown and described.
THOMAS EATON, JR.
