Description

Filed March 21. 1952 Rveyzr:
Patented Mar. 28, 1933 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEv WARREN U. BoTsFoRD, or MOLINE, ILLINOIS, AssIeNoR 'ro ROCK-'ISLAND MFG, co., oF Rocx ISLAND, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION or ILLINoIs VISE DISPLAY STAND Application filed March 21, 1932. Serial N0. 600,292.
This invention relates to improvements in vise display stands and, more especially, a convenient stand or support adapted to hold a plurality of vises in position for display, examination and manipulation.
Among the features of my invention is the provision of such a stand adapted to support a plurality of vises in a small space, and at the same time permit complete examination and operation of any one of said vises. This is accomplished by supporting the vises by the ends of their beams so that the jaws can be opened and closed without detaching the same from the stand. They are also supported on a rotatable member so that any one at a time can be swung around to the front of the stand for close examination and operation.
Another feature of my invention is the provison of such a stand on which the vises can be readily mounted or dismounted.
Other features and advantages of my invention will appear more fully as I proceed with my specilication.
In that form of device embodying the features of my invention shown in the accompanying drawing- Figure 1 is a view in front elevation, partly in section; and Fig. 2 is a top plan view.
As shown in the drawing, the stand includes a suitable base 10 here shown as circular in form, with upwardly curved ribs or spokes 11 supporting a hub or pedestal 12.
13 indicates a supporting member rotatably mounted on the base. This mounting is accomplished by providing the supporting member with a depending shaft 14 rotatably supported in the hub 12. The supporting part of the member 13 comprises a square plate provided with radial troughs or channels 13a delined by the upstanding ribs 13b. At the inner ends of the troughs 13a there are provided threaded holes 15 to accommodate the lower ends of vertical machine screws 16 under the heads of which there are provided square plates or washers 17 .Y
The vises are supported in a substantially radially extended horizontal position, as shown in the drawing. A vise 18 is attached by placing the end of its beam 18a in one of the channels or troughs 13a and holding the same there by placing the washer or plate 17 on top of the end of the beam and tightention.
While I have shown and described certain embodiments of my invention, it is to be undei-stood that it is capable of many modifications. Changes, therefore, in the construction and arrangement may be made without 707v departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as disclosed in the appended claims, in which it is my intention to claim all novelty inherent in my invention as broadly as permissible, in view of the prior art.
What I regard as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A base; a supporting member rotatably mounted on the base, said supporting member including a part with radial troughs hav- SOL.
ing holes in their inner ends; and means for holding the ends of the beams of vises in said troughs, said means including clamping members adapt-ed to engage the upper surfaces of the ends of said beams and coop 85.
erating with the holes in the troughs.
2. A base; a supporting member rotatably mounted on the base; and means on the supporting member for holding the ends of the beams of vises, said means including a support With radial troughs and means for holding the ends of vise beams in said troughs.
3. A base; a supporting member rotatably mounted on the base; and means on the supporting member for holding the ends of the beams of vises and supporting the same in substantially radially extended horizontal position, said means including a support With radial troughs and means for holding the ends of vise beams in said troughs.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal, this 11 day of March,
WARREN U. BOTSFORD.
