Description
J. W. LEWIS.
GRAIN-DISTRIBUTER.

.PETERS, PNOTO LITNOGRAFHER. WASHINGTONl D C OFFIo JOHN W. LEWIS, OF SGIPIO TOWNSHIP, SENECA COUNTY, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN GRAIN'DISTRIBUTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 190.229, dated May 1, 1877; application filed October 9, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN W. LEWIS, of Scipio township, county f Seneca and State of Ohio, have invented a Grain-Distributer, of which the following is a specification:
The object of this invention is to provide a means by which the grain may be raised and distributed into the several bins prepared to receive it, and the further purpose of supplying this means in a form that shall be available for every warehouse or granary or gristmill.
By the use of this machine there is no occasion, as heretofore, to go up and make any change whatever. It is all done from below.
Figure 1 shows a full view of the whole apparatus in perspective.
A shows the flooring, on which the distributers are placed. B B are the inlets into the several bins. F shows the upper floor, to which the grain is elevated. O is the connecting-pipe, through which the grain is discharged. G is the table, supported by iron legs, for the reception of the pin P. D is the elbow, elevated by means of the treadle I by foot-pressure only. H is the connecting-plate between the two rods K and P. Kis the rod, by means of which the elbow D is raised. J is the brace, upon which the elbow D is supported and raised. E is the inlet-pipe, where the grain is introduced by the elevator.
The operation of my improved means'for elevating and distributing grain into the several bins is as follows: When the grain is elevated to the top floor it is thrown into the pipe E by the rapid movement of the strap and buckets that form the elevator.
The elbow D is lined with sole-leather, as shown, into which the grain falls; for, if the grain was allowed to fall on the metal. it would at once-destroy it; hence, the elbow is lined with leather.
In moving the elbow D by means of the rod K, and the treadle I by the pressure of the foot, it throws the elbow up above the floor A and allows its passage over the floor into the several tubes that lead to the bins.
The elbow 0 may be made of any required length, and the tubes B B of any size. In moving the elbow D, it is simply necessary to raise it by the treadle I and shift it from one point to another in the table G, as required.
The upper part sustaining the lining of leather is the point at which the grain is delivered into the elbow, as shown at B.
' Having thus described the construction and operation of the said invention, what I claim, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, with the inlets B B, of the revolving elbow D, shaft K, arm H, pedal I, stop-pin P, and perforated table G, con structed as described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. The elbow lined with sole-leather to prevent the destruction thereof, constructed as described, and for the purpose set forth.
In witness that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 3d day of O0- tober, A. D. 1876.
. JOHN W. LEWIS.
