Description

L.A.REB ASZ.
FAUCET.
No. 189,904. Patented April 24-,- 1877.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LYMAN A. REBASZ, OF LOOKPORT, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO FBANKC'.
' LILLIS AND NORMAN E. BADGLE, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN.FAUCETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 189,904, dated April 24, 1877; application filed March 23, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, L. A. REBAsZ, of Lockport, in the county of Niagara and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Faucets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descriptionthereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to that class of locking-faucets in which the valvular portion is operated by a key entering the head of the faucet, and connected with the valvular p0;- tion, which key is removable, so as to prevent unauthorized access to the contents of the vessel in which the faucet is used.
This invention consists in a faucet having a conical cylindrical plug operating to open and close a straight way in the barrel of the faucet, and leading to the nozzle or spout, said plug being connected with a screw-stem arranged in the head of the faucet barrel or body, and operated by a removable key, also of the special construction hereinafter set forth.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of a faucet having my invention embodied therein, the valve or plug and its stem appearing in side elevation. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the faucet, and Fig. 3 an end view thereof.
A represents the barrel or body of a faucet, having a nozzle or spout, B, and a straight way, (3, with which said spout unites. This way 0 continues entirely through the body or barrel of the faucet; but the bore at H in the head of the barrel may be enlarged for a distance just clear of the farther edge of the spout B, so as to form an annular shoulder, c. D is a plug or valve, having its forward end a conical, and a rear portion, b, cylindrical. This rear portion is made cylindrical, so as to fit snugly in the bore H of the barrel A to form a fluid-tight joint, so that when the faucet is open nothing mayescape through the bore H. The cone a, of the plug D fits in the way 0 in the barrel, the shoulder c forming its seat, as of a valve. The plug D is provided with a screw-stem, E, that works in a fixed nut, F, or other bearing in the bore H of the barrel. The end of this stem projects nearly to the outer end of the-bore H, and is finished to receive a key, G.
The opening and closing of the faucet is accomplished through the screw-stem by means of a half-revolution of the key G for each operation; and the key being held by an authorized person, no other can gain access to the contents of the'vessel in which such faucet is used.
What I claim is The combination of the barrel A, having the straight way 0 and enlarged bore H, with the fixed nut F, screw-stem E, and plug D, all
arran ged, constructed, and operating as shown,
and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
