ELECTRIC HAIR WAVING IRON Filed June 18J 1930 3 Sheets-Sheet 3 llm/ewzr:
Patented Feb. 21A, 1933 PATENT OFFICE HENRI ROCHAT, OF GENEVA, SWITZERLAND ELECTRIC HAIR WAVING IRON Application led J'une 18, 1930, Serial No.
My invention relates to an electric hairwaving iron provided with controllable heating means. This control is effected by means of a rheostat co-axial with the articuklation of the device.
In the annexed drawings:
Fig. 1 is an axial section of the articulation of the device.
Figs. 2 and 3 are inside views of the two parts supposedly separated from each other.
Figs. 4 and 5 are outside views of the iron to a reduced scale.
Fig. 6 is a diagram oi" the electric connections.
Each leg 10 or 11 of the iron is fixed to a cylindrical hollow body 1 or 2 which tit together as a box and its cover (Fig. 1). An axial screw 3 forms the pivot of both parts.
A button 4, made of insulating material, is loose on screw 3 and drives a movable arm 5 which contacts against a yieldable plate 6, pressing the same against an annularly arranged resistor unit 7, 8.
This unit 7, 8 is connected in series withthe heating units located inside the legs 10` 11 of the iron, and the power supply circuit, which enters the device through a hollow handle 9 of the same. I he resistor unit 7, 8 is located within a cylindrical box 12 fixed to body 2, the periphery of said box forming a collecting ring. Arm 5 drives a brush 13 which contacts with another collecting ring 14 electrically connected with the heating unit- 15 oi" leg 10. This unit 15 is in turn connected with a brush 26 in electrical cooperation with ring 12. Of course, insulating means are providing where needed. In Fig. 1, mica plates 16 and 17 have been shown, and the wires pass through insulating pearls 35.
Considering Fig. 6, the electric current from wire 19, for instance, is directed through the heating unit 2O of leg 11 and enters the resistor unit at 21. This unit is in contact with arm 5 through the yieldable plate 6, and arm 5 is in turn in electrical relation with brush 13 and ring 14. From the latter the current is directed through the heating unit 15 of leg 10, to brush 26 and 462,077, and in Switzerland July 1, 1929.
A pointer 27, fixed to button .4, cooperates with graduations (not shown) provided on body 2. Vents 32 are provided in bodies 2 and 3, and plate 6 is also perforated at 33 so that the device may be efficiently aircooled.
The handle 9 is provided, at the free end thereof, with a semispherical hollow member formed of two parts 28 and 29 held together by means of rings 30, 31. This member 28-29 is loose on the end of handle 9 and it contains a device with rotating sliding brushes to which the supply line is connected.
I claim- 1. An electric hair-waving iron comprising a pair of legs; electrical heating units within said legs; a hollow cylindrical meinber fixed to each leg, said members being co-axial with each other and pivoted to each other about the common axis so as to form a box; and an adjustable resistance connected in series with said heating units, said resistance being housed within the box formed by said hollow members.
2. An electric hair-waving iron comprising a pair of legs; electrical heating units within said legs; a hollow cylindrical member fixed to each leg, said members being co-axial with each other and pivoted to each other about the common axis so as to form a box; an annular resistance connected in series with said heating units, said resistance being housed within the box formed by said hollow members, co-axially with the same; and means for adjusting said resistance, said means being arranged co-axial with said resistance.
3. In an electric hair-waving iron as claimed in claim 2, wherein the means for adjusting the resistance, comprises a yieldable electrically conducting plate, said plate being co-axial with said resistance and in fixed angular position with the same; and a rotatable finger pressing said plate against a point of said resistance.
4. An electric hair-waving iron as claimed in claim 2, comprising a ring co--axial With the resistance, exterior to the same and electrcally ,connected with the same, and a brush sliding on said ring and electrically connected with the heating unit of one leg..
In testimony thereof, I ax my signature.
HENRI RocHAT.
