In the clearance recess 30 of the journal block 29 is located the arm 7 0 which is pivoted at one end to the vertical pivot 71 eX- tending from said journal block 29. The
5 other end of the arm 70 is pinned to the twisted link 68 by means of the pin 72. In the wall 21 is journaled a shaft 76, which at one end has fastened thereto the bevel gear 77, which' meshes with the bevel gear 78V fastened to the worm shaft'40.` The. shaft 76 has fastened thereto the hub 7 9 against which bears the clamping disc 80. The outer end of the shaft 76 has formed therewith the threaded shank 81. A second clamping disc 82 is supported on the shaft 76,'and a nut 83 is supported on the threaded shank 8 1. The clamping discs -80 and; 82 maybe spaced fromV each other and a cleaning wheel, not shown, may be clamped between-the discs 80 2O and 82in conjunction with the nut 83. To the wall 2 1 isbolted the supporting bracket 85, by means of which one end of a clothes wringer, not shown, may be supported.` The g projection 44 of the shaft43 may be attachedto a rotating element of the clothes wringerV to actuate the latter. c

A pair of stems are shown at 130 and to their lower ends are fastened the cup-shaped suction plungers 131. To the upper ends of the stems 130 is pinned the oscillating beam 132, which has formed therewith the handle 133. r1`he latter has formed therewith atits llower end the prongs 134 having the straight vertical inner walls 135,`that engage the recesses 59 of the support 58. To use the washingvmachine it is located in the 'washtub 96 with the caps 115 of the rods 114 bearing on the bottom wall 99 of saidtub. The plugs 110 of the members 106 of the legs are located to bear againstthe rear wall 98 of the washtub. The waslitub" 96 is partly filled with water and soap orA other washing ingredients and the clothing or other objects to be washed are iimnersed ,in the water in the tub. A
rlhe oscillations of the arm 51 are transmitted to the arm 61 through the bent link 62, and thereby the spindle 60 is oscillated. The spindle 60 oscillates the arm 65 and the latter reciprocates the twisted link 68. The link 68 swings the arm 70 and the latter oscillates the pivot 71, whereby the cross-bar 146 of the agitator stem 145 is oscillated. The cross bar 146 of the agitator being below and adjacent to the suction plungers 131 functions with the latter to circulate the water around and through the material operated upon, and also to move said material.
The bevel gear 78 transmits rotation to the bevel gear 77 whereby rotation is impart- 'ed to the shaft T 6, and the cleaning wheel,
not shown, supported on said shaft 76 is thereby turned.
It will be noted that this improved wash ing machine has no washtub integral therewith, and thereby avoids the necessity of draining any soiled water from the machine.
The legs having the members 105 and 106 can be swung on the pins 118 to locate the members 105 adjacent to the platform 20, when the machine is not in use. Also the oscillating beam 132 with the suction plungers 131 and the agitator 145 can be easily dismantled when the machine is not in use and located with the remainder of the washing machine in a washtub or other receptacle. The rods 114 can be adjusted to extend at different lengths from the sleeves 108 for washtubs of different depths, and function as extensions of the members 105 of the legs.
Various modifications may be made in the invention and the present exemplification is to be taken as illustrative and not limitative thereof.
Having described my invention what I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim -is:
1. In a washing machine the combination of a pair of suction plungers, means to reciprocate the plungers, an agitator adjacent -to the suction plungers, said agitator comprising an agitator stem, a cross bar fastened to the lower end of the agitator stem., prongs extending from said cross bar and meanst'o oscillate said agitator stem while the suction plungers reciprocate.
2. In a washing machine the combination of an oscillating shaft, an oscillating beam supported on one end of the shaft, a pair of stems having their upper ends pinned to the oscillating beam, a suction plunger fastened to the lower end of each stem, a spindle supported in the machine, connections between said shaft and said spindle to oscillate the latter, an arm having its upper end fastened to the spindle, a link having one end pinned to the lower end of said arm, a pivot supported in the machine, an arm having one end fastened to said pivot and its other end pivoted to the link and an agitator fastened to said pivot.
3. In a washing machine the combination of a platform, a pair of supporting brackets slidably connected to the lower face of the platform, a leg comprising an upper member and a lower member pinned to each bracket, a heel formed with the lower member of each leg, a boss extending from one face of the` up-A per member of each leg adapted to bear on its adjacent bracket, a plug of flexible material positioned against the other face of each upper member of each leg, the said plugs of flexible material adapted to bear against the wall of a washtub, a latch arm for each of said brackets and having its upper end pinned thereto, the lower end of each latch arm adapted to lock with the heel of its adjacent leg, a rod adjustably connected to the lower member of each leg, to constitute an extension for said lower mem'ber of each leg and a flexible cap attached to the lower end of said rod.
4. In a washing machine the combination of a platform, a pairof supporting brackets slidably connected to the lower face of the platform, a leg comprising an upper member and a lower member pinned to each bracket, a heel extending from the lower member of each leg, a latch arm for each of said brackets and having its upper end pinned thereto, the lower end of each latch arm adapted to lock with the heel of its adjacent leg, and a rod adjustably connected to the lower member of each leg to constitute an extension therefor.
5. In a washing machine the combination of an oscillating shaft, an oscillating beam supported on one end of the'shaft, a pair of stems having their upper ends pinned to the oscillating beam, a suction plunger fastened to the lower end of each stem,'a pivot sup'- ported in the machine, an arnrhaving one end fastened to said pivot, connections between the other end of said arm and said oscillating shaft to swing said arm and an agitator fastened to said pivot, said agitator oscillating with the swinging of said arm.
