IMPROVEMENTIIN CIGAR-HOLDERS.

I Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 188,992, dated March 27, 1877; application filed October 27, 1876.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FREDERICK H. W. VON TIEDEMANN, of the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented an Improved Cigar-Holder; and I do hereby declare the fol-lowing to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to a novel device for holding cigars while they are being smoked, and which may also be converted into a pipe,

' if desired.

Referring to the accompanying drawings for a more complete explanation of my invention,

- A is a tube which is provided with a movable that after the cigar has been placed upon the tube C the ring can be pushed along, so as to embrace the end of the cigar and steady it.

The outer end of the tube A is bent downward at E and has a chamber formed in the removable head F, so as to receive and retain any moisture which results from the act of smoking.

A flat-edged bar or a pair of legs, Gr, may

- be attached to themoutll-piece upon the lower side, and when the cigar is laid down it will be supported upon the head F and this bar, so that it cannot tip over. If desired, a bowl may be fitted to the tube C or to take its place, and the device can thus be easily converted into a pipe.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The device consisting of the tube A, with its mouth-piece, and the perforated tube C adapted to be thrust into the side of the cigar, together with a steadying device, D, substantially as herein described.

2. In combination with a cigar-holder, A,

having the bent supporting-head F, the bar hand and seal.
