Description

NOV. 29, 1932. A. 1 REEDY 1,889,218
COMBINATION RACK AND PAN Filed Aug. 19, 1931 INVENTOR ATTORNEYS Patented Nov. 29, 1932 NETE@ STAT ALFRED J". REEDY, OIF BATTLE CREEK, MICHIGAN, ASSTGNOR T A-B STOVE COMPANY, OF BATTLE CREEK, MCHIGAN COMBINATION RACK AND PAN Application led August 19, 1931. Serial No. 558,021.
The main object of the invention is to provide the shelves of a cabinet, such as an oven or a refrigerator with individual pans.
Another object of the invention is to provide improved means for supporting individual pans under sliding racks or shelves.
A. still further object of the invention is to provide a slidable grille or rack with means for slidably supporting a tray thereunder.
Objects pertaining to details and economies of my invention will appear from the description to follow. The invention is deiined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of a cooking stove or range having an oven embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the combina tion shelf and individual pan, the pan being shown in partially retracted position by dotted lines.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary section taken on a line corresponding to line 3-3 of Fig. 2. y
Fig. 4l is a fragmentary longitudinal section taken on a line corresponding to line 4.-4 of Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawing, 1 indicates the oven of a gas or electric range 2 which is provided with a. plurality of shelves or racks 3 slidably supported by ways 4. The central shelf or rack 5 is provided with channelshaped hangers 6, preferably of enameled sheet metal. The bottom flanges of the hangers are provided with downwardly oifset portions 7 which constitute ways or ledges for the lateral supporting flanges of the pan 9.
The hangers 6 overlie the slats or bars 1li adjacent the side members 15 of the border frame and are also provided with downwardly extending upper ilanges 10 which coact with the offset portion 11 of the sheet metal T clip plate 12 secured to the under side of the upper arms of the hanger member. The wire shelf or rack 5 comprises the rectangular wire frame 15 to which is secured the spaced longitudinal wire slats or bars 14. The clip member or plate 12 is secured to the upper portion of the hanger by means ofrivets 17. The member 12 is provided with an upwardly in. clined offset portion 18 which is adapted to engage the upper surface of the side 15 of the frame so as to hold the hanger securely in place relative to the shelf.
Each of the hangers 6 is provided with a stop 19 at rear end thereof, which depends into the path of the rack 5 to limit its movement relative thereto.
1n operation, the pan 9 is inserted in place under the shelf 5 by placing the supporting lianges 8 on the seats provided therefor and then sliding the pan inwardly. In this position if desired both the pan and its supporting shelf may be moved as a unit over the oven ways e. The pan, however, is free to slide relative to the shelf as indicated by Fig. 1 wherein both the shelf 5 and the pan 9 have been moved in the above described manner. The dotted lines 2O of Fig. 2 illustrate the relative positions of the shelf and pan in place.
While I have illustrated and described my invention as embodying only the middle shelf 5 of the oven 1, it is to be understood that all or any number of the shelves 3 may be provided with individual pans as described above.
1t is obvious that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction and design of the above specifically described embodiments of my invention without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes and modifications being restricted only by the scope of the following claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is Cil l. The combination with a compartment provided with shelf ledgesf'of a rack or shelf comprising a border framegand longitudinally disposed bars secured thereto, a pa having an out-turned rimgm its longitudinal edges, sheet metal hanger membersfbf Channel formation embracing the side .border members of tla frame and overlapping the adjacent bar said hanger members being adapted to slidably engage the shelf ledges, the bottom flanges of the hanger members being angled to provide supporting ledge with Which the drip pan is slidably engaged, and clip memberslmsecured to the under sides 'of the upper flanges of said hanger members and engaging the side border members'and the adjacent bars! l' 2. The combination With a compartment provided With shelf ledges, of arack or shelf comprising a border frame, a pan having an out-turned rim on its longitudinal edges, sheet metal hanger members of channel formation embracingthe side border members of the frame, said hanger members being adapted to slidably engage the shelf ledges, the bottom flanges of the hanger members being angled to provide supporting ledges With which the pan is slidably engaged.
3. The combination vvith a rack or shelf Comprising a border frame and longitudinal bars secured thereto, a pan having an outturned rim on its longitudinal edges, hanger members of channel formation embracing the side border members of t-he frame and overlapping the adjacent bars, the bottom fianges of the hanger members being angled to provide supporting ledges With which the pan is slidably engaged, and clip members secured to the under sides of the upper flanges of said hanger members to engage the side border members and the adjacent bars.
4. The combination with a rack or shelf comprising a border frame, a pan having an out-turned rim on its longitudinal edges, hanger members of channel formation embracing the side border members of the frame, the bottom flanges of the hanger members being angled to provide supporting ledges with which the pan is slidably engaged.
5. In a device of the class described, the combination with a Wire rack, of an individual pan therefor having a rim provided with lateral supporting flanges, and means for supporting said pan directly under said rack comprising sheet metal hangers of substantially channel shape carried by the sides of said rack and having depending offset portions constituting ledges with Which the lateral supporting flanges of said pan are slidably engaged, and sheet metal members secured to the insides of said hangers and having offset portions constituting keepers engaging the sides of said rack and inwardly spaced Wires thereof whereby to hold said hangers in place.
hand.
