This invention relates to a coin delivery chute.

Objects of this invention are to provide a novel form of chute for a coin delivery machine.

In coin delivery machines, chutes have been provided which deliver the coins discharged from the machine into a receptacle, so that purchasers may pick the coins from the re- It sometimes happens, particularly when the purchasers have gloves on or are otherwise encumbered, that they have difficulty in picking the coins from the receptacle. Under these conditions, the operator mustwait until the purchaser picks up the coins, thereby delaying the subsequent purchasers.

This invention is designed to overcome the defects noted above, and objects of this invention are to provide a novel form of chute so constructed that it normally delivers the coins into the receptacle, but which may be instantly changed by the operator so that the coins are delivered through an opening uncovered in the chute and discharged into the hand of the operator, so that the operator may hand the purchaser his change.

Further objects are to provide a coin delivery chute which slopes downwardly and outwardly from the coin delivery machine, and is provided with a flap normally closing an opening through the bottom of the chute, such flap being provided with means operable by the hand of the operator to cause the flap to uncover the opening and act as a baffle to deflect the coins from the chute through the opening and into the hand of the operator.

Referring to the drawing, it will be seen chute slants downwardly and outwardly, and

discharges the coins, under normal conditions, into a coin receptacle 3. The chute may be pivotally joined to the receptacle, although this feature forms no part of the present invention, and it may similarly be adjustably joined to the coin delivery machine.

The coin chute is provided with an opening in its bottom wall which is normally closed by means of a flap 4 pivotally mounted and provided with means for normally holding it in alignment with the bottom wall of the chute. For instance, the upper edge of the opening and flap may be beveled, as indicated by the reference character 5, and in addition, if desired, a lip 6 may be formed at the lower end of the flap and may cooperate with the under-side of the chute to limit the closing motion of the flap. The flap may be pivotally mounted in various ways. For instance, small recesses 7 may be formed in the side walls of the chute, and the flap may be provided with ears 8 pivotally held within said recesses by means of pins 9.

The flap is provided with means for rocking it upwardly into the dotted line position shown in Figure 1. This means may take the form of a pair of spaced, downwardly projecting ribs 10 carried on the underside of the flap and adapted to be engaged by the hand of the operator.

When the operator places his hand in contact with the projections 10 and forces the flap into its dotted line position, the flap forms a baffle within the chute and deflects coins from the uncovered opening, and into the hand of the operator. As soon as the operator removes his hand, the flap immediately drops back to its closed position.

I claim:

In a coin delivery machine, a coin chute comprising an inclined trough having an opening in its bottom wall and recesses formed upon the interior of its side walls adjacent the lower end of said opening, a flap normally forming a flush closure for said opening and provided with ears positioned within said recesses and horizontally pivotally connected to the side walls of said trough, said flap opening upwardly and depending means carried upon the lower side of said flap and outside of said trough for manipulating the same and serving to deflect coins in to the operators hand.
