Patented Oct. 11, 1932 as STATES PATENT oFFIcE Ii'IAS SACHUSETTS OF LYNN, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO FORBES LITHOGRAPH 'MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OIKBOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, A CORPORATION OF DISPLAY STAND Application filed November 13, 1930. Serial No. 495,357.
.hThis invention relates to display stands and the object is to provide a novel construction of such a stand particularlyadapted to support a package of goods for display on a dealers counter, such, for example, as a carton of candles. The stand may be folded 'upfrom a blank formed from a flat sheet Fig. 3 is a plan view of the blank; and i Fig. 4 is a fragmentary central section through that part of the device which in erectedposition lies at the front.
In the example of my invention shown in the drawings by way of illustration, the display stand is made from a single piece of cardboard or the like, as shown in Fig. 3, and embodies a suitable panel 5 adapted to be supported in display position, which herein is an upright slanting position. Herein the panel 5 is supported by the rearwardly foldable wings 7 which may be locked in position by the tongue 9 having the slots 11 which embrace the edges of the wings when they are folded back. The construction of the parts 5, 7 and 9 is substantially like the device of the patent-to Wilson 773,177, October 25, 1904, well known in the art, and does not need extensive description herein. I prefer, however, to provide the bases of the wings 7 with the foldable flanges 13 and their sides with the similar flanges 15, and when the parts are erected the flanges 13 may fold outwardly to provide a relatively broad support, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, while the flanges 15 may be turned in one direction or the other to stiffen the structure.
From one end of the panel 9 there is provided an extension connected to the panel by the fold line 17, which extension in the embodiment of the invention shown comd i prises the parts 19, 21,23 and 'joined by the fold lines 27, 29 and 31. The extension is adapted to carry suitable means to aid in supporting a carton in front of the panel 5 and v 111 display position, and I haveherein shown as connected to the extension by the fold line 33 a frame-like member 35. The material within the frame provides the rearwardly bendable flanges 37. Referring now to Figs.
'1 and 2, when the easel comprising the parts 5 and 7 is erected, the extension may be folded over on itself to bring the frame 35 in front of the panel 5 and the flanges 37 folded rearwardly are adapted to fit about the sides of the easel. A receptacle is thus formed of which the panel 5 is the bottom and in which may be placed the carton 39 containing the packages 41 of goods to be sold, as shown in 1g. 1.
The flanges 37 may be provided with notches 43, one wall of the notches hearing, as shown in'Figs. 1 and 2, on top of the extremities of the rearwardly foldedtongue'9 to aid in maintaining the latter in position.
Preferably also the lower corners of these flanges are bevelled off, as shown at 45, sothat they may rest upon the outturned flanges 13.
The extension comprising the parts 19, 21,
2 3 and 25 in the form shown provides a prismatic structure, herein triangular, the front and rear walls being defined by the parts 21 and 23 and the apex by the fold line 29 between them (see Fig; 4), spaced from the front of the frame member 35 and defining a trough as illustrated. Into this trough the articles41, especially when they are of cylindrical form as in the case of packages of disc-like candies, may gravitate'in the manner shown in Fig. 1. A purchaser may conveniently'take one of the packages from this trough and its place will be taken by another gravitating down from the carton 39.
Suitable means may be provided to main tain the extension in its folded-up position and'I have herein illustrated suitable means of the tongue and slot type. As best shown by Figs. 3 and 4, a tongue 47 may be cut from the central portion of the part 19, and when the parts are folded up, it may be inserted V $13.6 f rcgoing, description, to indicate the through the slot 49 cut in part 25 adjacent the fold line 33, overlie the-part 25 and be terminally inserted through slit 51 with its end protruding into the interior of the hollow prismatic structure. V
' Referring to; Figs. 1 and;2, I-have there shownithe' top edge of the frame-like-member as cut to form bendable tongues 53. v
1- have herein shown the carton 39 as provided 1 tongues 53 may be engagedover "this display card in the manner shown in Figrl to "holds it in display position,
