Description

Oct. 4, 1932. c RA T 1,880,963
GARMENT HANGER Filed Oct. 20. 1930 INVENTOR 7 CharZe: Jfra f 2',
7447277886" 6PM I ATTORNEY.
7 Patented Oct. 4, 1232 CHARLES H. KRAFT, or
KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI GARMENT HANGER Application filed October 20, 1930. Serial No. 488,946.
'My invention relates to devices for supporting garments and embraces a bodily Y slnftable suspension member, a garment-holding member connected to said suspension 5 member, a bar, rod, or like support on which the complete hanger may be shifted to various positions, and brackets for supporting said bar, rod, or like support.
My device is particularly useful in classroom wardrobes, or check rooms used in con-- nection with theaters other public buildings in which 'arments of the patrons are checked.
In order that the invention may be fully understood, reference will now be had to the accompanying drawing, in Which:
Fig. lis an end elevation of the garment supporter.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the garment supporter. I r
' Fig. 3 is aside elevation of the garment supporter with the garment-holder detached from the suspension member. Fig. 4 is a cross section on line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a detail front elevation of the suspension member.
. Referring in detail to the different parts, 2 designates a plurality of bars, preferably of cylindrical cross section, which are supported by brackets .4, each of which has a pair of segmental seatsfi to receive the adjacent ends of two of said bars. The segmental se'ats 6 afford reliable supports for one or more of the bars 2 whether the bases of the brackets 4 are secured ina ho-rizontalposition against a ceiling or in a vertical position against a wall. The bars 2 are removablysecured in the seats 6 by suitable means such as set screws 8. The base of each bracket 4 is arranged in parallelism with the axis of the seats 6 andhas holes 10 so that it may be secured by screws or nails to a wall, ceiling,
, or other suitable support.
prising a hook 14 and an eye 16, which latter may be shifted bodily upon the bar 2 on wh1ch it is mounted, but prevents removal of the suspension members 12 from said bar.
18. designates a garment-holder whlch 1s 12' designates a suspension member com provided at its upper central portion with an eye 29 for detachable engagement with the hook 14. The garment-l1older 18 is permanently secured to the suspension member 12 by means of a chain or other flexible connection 22.
Inpractice any desired number of bars 2 and brackets 4 may be assembled end to end and each bar may be supplied with one or more garment supporters. The chain 22 enables the garment holder 18 to be removed a convenient distance from the hook 14, so that a garment can be readily placed upon or removed from the holder and at the same time said chain prevents the holder 18 from being carried off.
From the foregoing description it is apparent that I have provided a simple and inexpensive garment hanger which is well adapted for the purpose intended, and while I have shown and described one form of the invention I reserve all rights to such other forms and modifications thereof as properly fall within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what Iclaim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A garment hanger comprising a suspension member having a hook at its lower end and an eye at its upper end which latter is adapted to be shifted along a suitable support, a garment-holder having an eye at its upper end for detachably engaging said hook, and a chain permanently connecting the suspension member and said garmente holder.
2. A device of the character described con sisting of a suitably supported bar, a suspension member having an eye slidable upon said bar and provided with a depending hook, a garment holder detachably engaging said hook, and flexible means permanently connecting said garment holder to said suspension member.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
CHARLES H. KRAFT.
