Description
Sept. 27, 1932.
M. HANNON FINGER SHAPING DEVICE Filed May 22 qw vtmeoo I Jildreal Hamzon Patented Sept. 27, 1932 UNITED STATES PATIENT MILDRED HANNON, OF SAN GABRIEL, CALIFORNIA;
FINGER-SHAPING Application filed May-22, 1930. Serial No. 454,663.
The invention relates to devices for tapering the finger tips of the human hand to correct malformations thereof due either to nature or to employment.
It is the object of the invention to rovide a simple and inexpensive, yet a com ortable and eflicient finger-shaping device which may be quickly and easily applied, readily adjusted to obtain the desired pressure, and may be quickly removed when its use must be discontinued for any reason. 7
With the foregoing in view, the. invention resides in the novel subject matter hereinafter described and claimed, description beis ing accomplished by reference to the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a fingershaping device constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional view substantially on line 2--2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the bands used in securing finger-shaping forms within the front portions of short open-endedv glove fingers. V
Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view showing a finger-shaping form of slightly different construction.
The device consists essentially of a glove so of flexible nature throughout the greater part of its construction, but provided with substantially rigid forwardly tapered finger tips acting as forms for shaping the finger tips of the human hand. The finger-shaping forms are preferably perforated to admit air to avoid inflammation, said forms maybe lined or unlined as desired, and they may either be open at their front ends as in Fig.
1 or closed and rounded at said ends as disio closed in Fig. 4. The preferred construction is illustrated in the accompanying drawing and will now be described.
The numeral 5 on'the drawing denotes a glove of any desired flexible material, said 4 glove having short fingers 6 which are open at their front ends. Substantially rigid finger-shaping forms 7 of any preferred material and either lined or unlined, are connected with the open front ends of the fingers 6 to complete the device. The forms 7 are forwardly tapered to impart similar shape to the finger tips and they are provided with perforations 8 for air admission purposes. The rear ends of the forms 7 are snugly receivedin thefront portions of the glove fingers 6, being preferably cemented thereto. To provide a good appearance at the juncture of the glove fingers with the forms 7, to materially assist in securing said fingers and forms together, and to prevent 6g catching of the front ends of said fingers upon various objects with danger of disconnecting themfrom the forms, I provide a plurality of bands 9 of any preferred material, but preferably of thin metal. These 5. bands snugly surround the front portions of the glove fingers 6 which overlap the rear portions, of the forms 7. Hence, the glove fingers are held tenaci-ously against the forms to provide more durable connections between m the forms and the glove fingers. The front edges 10 of the bands 9 are turned inwardly and disposed in contact with the peripheries of the forms 7, thereby obscuring and protecting the front extremities of the fingers 6. 76
The device may be quickly and easily applied, adjusted to obtain the desired pressure upon the fingers by pulling the glove to the proper extent upon the hand, and will constitute an effective means for correcting malso formations of the finger tips, regardless of cause. Then too, if desired, the glove could be impregnated with a lotion, cream or the like, for treating the skin of the hands while shaping the fingers, or the hands may be covered with such a lotion, cream or the like, and the gloves will prevent the coating from being wiped off by contact with apparel, bed clothing, etc. Whenever use of the device must be discontinued, it is a quick and easy matter to simply remove the glove from the hand.
The invention will of course be furnished in pairs and in different sizes and it is to be understood that various changes as to size, proportion, materials, etc., may be made within the scope of said invention as claimed.
I claim A finger-shaping device comprising a flexible glove having short fingers open at their" ii front ends, forwardly tapered substantially rigid finger forms having their rear ends snugly received in the front portions of the glove fingers, and bands snugly surrounding said front portions of said glove fingers to hold them tightly against said finger forms, the front edges of said bands being turned inwardly at the front ends of said glove fingers and being disposed in contact with 0 said finger forms.
In testimony whereof I aflix my'signatur'e.
MILDRED HANNON.
