Description

0. OLSON Sept. 27, 1932.
MEANS OF PRODUCTION OF NOISELESS STOPS FOR DOORS OR WINDOWS Filed July 28. 1930 Patented Sept. 27, 1932 UNITED STATES OSCAR OLSON, OF ST. JOSEPH, MICHIGAN MEANS OF PRODUCTION OF NOISELESS STOPS FOR DOORS OR WINDOWS Application filed July as, 1930. Serial No. 471,226.
prevent slamming or rattling, and to provide improved means for threading the strip of felt or rubber or other material into the groove which is formed to receive it in the edge of the stop, whereby the work may be done rapidly and accurately.
It is also an object to provide certain details and features of construction tending to increase the general efficiency and desirability of a door stop and method of this particular character.
To the foregoing and other useful ends the invention consists in matters hereinafter set forth and claimed and shown in the accompanying drawing, in which- Fig. 1 is a horizontal section of a door frame and door having stops embodying the principles of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the method and the means for threading the strip of felt or rubber or other material into the groove formed in the edge of the stop.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged horizontal detail section on line 3.3 in Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged section on line 4A; in Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a view showing a stop and threading means similar to Fig. 2, but showing a different form of the invention.
Fig. 6 is a vertical section on line 66 in Fig. 5.
Fig. 7 is an enlarged transverse section on line 7..7 in Fig. 6.
Fig. 8 is an enlarged horizontal section on line 8..8 in Fig. 6.
As thus illustrated, and referring to Figs. 1, 2, 3, and 4, the invention comprises an ordinary door 1 hinged to the door frame 2 at 3, said door frame being provided at its sides with stops 4 as usual, except that in this case the stops and their edges are provided with inserted strips 5 of felt or rubberor other similar material. a
In Fig. 2, it will be seen that the sheet metal threading device 6 is adapted to have the strip 5 drawn therethrough, and has its end portion 7 adapted to enter the slot 8 as shown. Thus, by starting the end portion 9 of the strip in position as shown in Fig. 2, and by holding this end portion with one hand, and by holding the device 6 in the other hand, 0 and pulling the device lengthwise of the slot 8, the strip 5 can be quickly threaded into the slot in the manner shown. For convenience, and for use as a handle, a strip of wood 10 may be fastened in the outer end 5 portion of the sheet metal threading device 6 as shown. 7
Referring to Figs. 5 to 8 inclusive, it will be seen that the construction and method and means are similar, but in this case the strip 11 which is threaded into the slot 12 in the stop is doubled over upon itself, and the rounded fold in the strip forms the outer edge'of the bumper or cushion thus provided for engaging the door or window or other closure. Therefore, the threading device 13 in this case has a sheet metal portion 14 similar to the device 6, but in this case there is a central partition 15 formed from an integral portion of-the sheet metal, whereby the two Q folds of the strip each have a separate channel 16 and 16 through which they are drawn while being threaded into the slot '12 in. the manner shown. The lower end of the device 13 has a cross pin 17 adjacent the lower edge 5 portion 18 of the device, and it willbe seen that the strip in its flat condition as shown at 19 travels upwardly between this pin and said edge before it begins to fold upon itself when it enters the lower ends of the two 99 channels 16 previously mentioned. In this way the door stop is provided with a bumper or cushion of felt or other similar material folded upon itself in the manner shown and described.
With this construction and method, and with the means shown, the stop can be quickly and accurately provided with a cushion strip of felt or rubber or other material. If desired, glue or other adhesive can be first placed in the slot, so that the felt or rubber 011' other material will be effectively held in ace.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A tool for threading a strip of flexible material into a slot, comprising a hollow threading device through: which the strip of material is drawn, said threading'device'having its end thereof from which the strip is drawn formed and adapted to enter and slide in said slot and leave thet-Wo' combined edges of the strip therein as the threading device with its other end forwardis drawn lengthwise of said slot, leaving the creased or fold line edge of the strip outside the slot.
2. A tool for threading. a strip of flexible material into a slot, comprising a hollow threading device through which the strip of material isdra'wmsaid threading device hav- 7 ing its end thereof from which the strip is drawn formed and adapted to enter and slide in said slot and leave the two combined edges of the strip therein as the threading. device with its other end forward is drawn length- Wise of said slot, leaving the creased or fold line edge of the strip outside the slot, said threading device having a partition therein forming two parallel channels separated by a wall adapted to serve asa folder to double the strip upon itself lengthwise thereof, in
such manner that the fold in the material 1 forms the outer edge of the cushion. a
3: A tool for threading a strip of flexible material into a slot, comprising a hollow threading device through which the strip of material is drawn, said threading device having its end thereof from which the strip is drawn formed and adapted to enter and slide in said slot and leave the two combined edges of the strip therein as the threading device with its other end forward is drawn length-wise of said slot, leaving the creased or fold line edge of the strip outside the slot, said threading device having apartition therein forming two parallel channels separated by a wall adapted to serve as a folder to double the strip upon itself lengthwise thereof, in such manner that the fold in the material forms the outer edge of the cushion,
said device having means to guide the fiat V strip to said folding. means.
Specification signed this 21st day of July,
OSCAR OLSON.
